Tesla fined in Norway for reducing battery capacity and charging speed

Tesla EVs are very popular in Norway, the country with the highest number of EVs per capita. But this does not mean that all Tesla owners are happy with the company’s actions.

After a software update in 2019, many have experienced a reduction in mileage of about 50 km per charge and a drop in fast charging speeds at Tesla Superchargers. Problems were observed in cars produced in 2013-2015. Then the manufacturer explained this by the desire to “protect the battery and increase its service life,” assuring that the changes would affect only “a small proportion of owners.” Meanwhile, some owners have seen a sharp drop in battery capacity, in some cases as high as 11%.

The Norwegians were not satisfied with this, and they filed a lawsuit. Tesla was recently found guilty by a court and ordered the company to pay $ 16,000 to each of the affected Model S electric vehicle buyers, the source said.

Note that Tesla did not respond to the lawsuit, so the decision was made in absentia. If the manufacturer does not appeal, the 30 Tesla S owners involved in the lawsuit can still count on compensation. With more than 10,000 owners of such electric vehicles in Norway, there could soon be a bigger price tag.

It remains to add that similar claims have been filed in Denmark, the United States and other countries.
