Swiss disinfection robots being tested on Helvetic Airways
Disinfecting robots using ultraviolet radiation sources that are harmful to viruses are being tested on Swiss aircraft. The implementation of this development is expected to help restore passenger confidence and revitalize the tourism industry affected by the pandemic.
The robot was created by the young Swiss company UVeya. The tests are being carried out on Embraer aircraft of Helvetic Airways. They are co-organized with Dubai-based airport services company Dnata.
According to a UVeya spokesman, aircraft manufacturers will have to certify the new product. They are now studying the effect of UV radiation on upholstery, which can fade after repeated disinfection. However, the company hopes that disinfection robots will help reduce people’s fear of flying, even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The basis for optimism is the use of proven technology that has been used in hospitals and laboratories for over 50 years. It is very effective and does not leave any marks on treated surfaces.
At the moment, three prototypes are ready, which are being tested. One robot can disinfect a narrow-body aircraft from start to finish in 13 minutes. Of course, larger planes take longer. The serial robot is expected to cost $ 16,000.
