Steam Coming Soon to Chrome OS: Chromebook Support List and System Requirements Revealed
A couple of years ago, it became known that official support for Steam would appear in Chrome OS. 9to5Google has published a list of the first Chromebooks that should support games on Steam.
According to a January developer comment, Google now has “clear schedules” for when Steam will arrive on Chrome OS. This may be directly related to Google partner companies such as Lenovo and HP, who are likely working on a Chromebook with an RGB keyboard that is aimed at gamers.
In a recently released code change, Google has unveiled an initial list of supported Chromebook models, as well as a few additional minimum specs they need to have.
At the moment the list looks like this:
- Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1H)
- Acer Chromebook 515
- Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W)
- ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500)
- ASUS Chromebook CX9 (CX9400)
- HP Pro c640 G2 Chromebook
- Unknown/Unreleased Lenovo Chromebook
Your Chromebook must have an Intel Core i5 or i7 (11th generation) processor and at least 7 GB of RAM. A source has seen evidence Google is testing Steam on older 10th Gen Intel Core processors as well as AMD chips.
Another interesting point is that Nvidia appears to be directly involved in adding Steam support for Chrome OS.

A new trend among cybercriminals: there is an attack on teenage gamers

The VTB Bank team spoke about a new trend among cybercriminals. Now malefactors have developed activity concerning fans of computer games. Attackers create sites that allegedly sell popular online games, which in fact turn out to be phishing resources and swindle accumulated money from teenagers.
Fraudsters develop online stores for gamers, attracting them with a big discount for buying games, accounts for them, collectibles, as well as the opportunity to replenish wallets in game stores. They actively promote their sites through search engines, make SMS mailings and create specialized chats in instant messengers to attract gamers. Gamers enter bank card details on the site, but in reality the money is transferred to an electronic wallet or card to scammers.
Most often, through phishing pages, scammers collect phone numbers, bank cards and logins from personal accounts in a banking application / Internet banking, SMS codes to confirm transactions or enter a personal account, passport data, SNILS. Often this information is further used in the framework of social engineering.
VTB Senior Vice President, Head of Digital Business Department Nikita Chugunov explained:
One of the most vulnerable categories of Internet users are children and teenagers who spend a lot of time online without having enough experience or knowledge to foresee danger.

The head of Nvidia promised not to leave gamers and came out with the protection of 8 GB of memory from the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti

Amid the explosion of interest in artificial intelligence, Nvidia’s stock soared to incredible heights, putting the company briefly in the club of companies with a capitalization of over $1 trillion. Against this background, gamers and journalists have a question whether all this will affect the gaming direction. However, the head of Nvidia assured that no one will forget about gamers.
First, RTX was invented for gamers, and for RTX, the most important technology is artificial intelligence. Without artificial intelligence, we wouldn’t be able to do real-time ray tracing. It was impossible. And the first AI project in our company, the main direction of AI was Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). Deep learning. This is the pillar of RTX.
Second, notice what we’ve done with generative AI. The first application was ACE – Avatar Cloud Engine
Also, the head of Nvidia spoke out in defense of 8 GB of memory in the younger RTX 40 graphics cards.
Remember that the frame buffer is not a computer’s memory, but a cache. And how you manage cache matters a lot. As in the case of any other cache. And yes, the more cash, the better. However, you must compromise on many issues.
As a result, Jensen Huang called 8 GB for the RTX 4060 Ti the right amount. However, as we said today, even the RTX 3070 eventually appeared in serial form with 16 GB of memory.

Video card with a physical switch between 8 and 16 GB of memory. This project was implemented by the authors Paulo Gomes and Casual Gamers

We have already seen video cards with soldered additional memory, but the next project of Paulo Gomes and Casual Gamers is unique. The authors created a 3D map with a physical memory size switch: 8 GB or 16 GB.
The authors took the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 video card, dismantled the native memory chips and replaced them with chips of twice the capacity, so that the card eventually received 16 GB of memory.
Unfortunately, there are no technical details about the project, so how the ability to switch between two memory sizes was organized is unclear. Perhaps two BIOSes are used here. Perhaps later the video will be released on the Paulo Gomes channel, whose specialists were just responsible for the modification.
As for testing, in some games the additional amount of memory was very critical, while some do not notice it, which is logical. Still, the very shortage of 8 GB, which has been talked about so much lately, concerns only some of the most recent projects.
