Backblaze, a data backup company, has published new material regarding the reliability of drives. This time again with an SSD and now with a lot of data.

For the first time, the experts of the source added SSD to the report in May. Then statistics showed that solid-state drives are much more reliable than conventional HDDs, but the average age of the former was much less than that of the latter. Because of this, it was impossible to draw a correct conclusion. Backblaze has taken this into account and has now provided more data.

First, let’s take a look at the general statistics.

You can see that HDDs fail about six times more often than SSDs. But here is the same problem: there is a huge difference in the age of the drives.

The authors took statistics about their HDDs from five years ago, when the average age of hard drives corresponded to the average age of those currently used by Backblaze SSDs. And here the difference is several times less. It is still there, it cannot be attributed to an error, but it is completely uncritical, at least for ordinary users.

And this graph clearly shows how HDD reliability changes with age. And the SSD graph is almost identical to the HDD graph for the same time period. True, this does not mean that in a few years, solid-state drives will begin to fail as often as HDDs do. So far, we can only say that the comparison of the reliability of HDD and SSD is not as straightforward as one might think.

New data on the Intel Core i5-12600K processor of the Alder Lake family has appeared on the web. The CPU was tested in the CPU-Z benchmark in two states: standard and overclocked. And even at nominal frequencies, this processor turned out to be faster than the top model of the Rocket Lake-S line – Core i9-11900K.

The unclocked Core i5-12600K scores 746 points in a single-threaded test and 7058 points in a multi-threaded one. The overclocked performance is, of course, even higher – about 790 and 7200 points, respectively. It turns out that even in the base, the Core i5-12600K is faster than the current flagship Core i9-11900K – it has 682 and 6563 points, respectively.

However, this raises the question – why is the 10-core Intel CPU compared to the 6-core AMD CPU? Nevertheless, such a comparison is quite acceptable, because, according to preliminary data, the cost of the Core i5-12600K will be at the level of the Ryzen 5 5600X. And this is where AMD and its most popular Ryzen 5000 processor line can be hit hard.

The CMP 170HX does not have video outputs and is not intended for gaming, but miners are not interested in the game. But the fact that the video card is accompanied by a 1 year warranty is interesting. It was previously stated that Nvidia CMP 3D cards have a limited warranty of only three months. But here either an exception was made for the CMP 170HX, or Nvidia revised its warranty policy, or the seller assumes an additional 9 months of warranty. In any case, a year of warranty for a purely mining video card, which will definitely overclock and work at the same time in 24/7 mode, is strong.
