The team of the popular messenger WhatsApp has stopped support from today, November 1, smartphones with old versions of Android and iOS.

As a reminder, since February 2020, support for smartphones with the installed Android operating system version 2.3.7 and older, as well as iOS 8 and older has ceased. Now support for WhatsApp has ended for Android versions 4.0.4 and older, as well as iOS 9 and older.

Note that WhatsApp does not stop supporting specific smartphone models – we are talking only about the OS version installed on them. The network has already published a list of several dozen models of smartphones that are under threat – if users could not install a more recent version of the OS on them in time, they may lose access to WhatsApp.

For example, among Apple smartphones, the iPhone SE, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are at risk. For these iPhones, Apple is currently offering updates to iOS 15 inclusive.

Among smartphones based on Android, under the threat of losing access to WhatsApp, such models of famous manufacturers are:

  • LG: Lucid 2, Optimus F7, Optimus F5, Optimus L3 II, Dual Optimus L5, Best L5 II, Optimus L5, Dual Best L3 II, Optimus L7, Optimus L7, Dual Best L7 II, Optimus F6, Enact Optimus F3, Best L4 II, Best L2 II, Optimus Nitro HD, Optimus 4X HD and Optimus F3Q.
  • Huawei: Ascend G740, Ascend Mate, Ascend D Quad XL, Ascend D1 Quad XL, Ascend P1 S and Ascend D2.
  • Samsung: Galaxy Trend Lite, Galaxy Trend II, Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy Xcover 2, Galaxy Core and Galaxy Ace 2.
  • ZTE: Grand S Flex, ZTE V956, Grand X Quad V987 and Grand Memo.
  • Sony: Xperia Miro, Xperia Neo L and Xperia Arc S.

Lesser known brands now include Alcatel One Touch Evo 7, Archos 53 Platinum, HTC Desire 500, Caterpillar Cat B15, Wiko Cink Five and Wiko Darknight, Lenovo A820, UMi X2, Run F1 and THL W8.

Updated requirements for WhatsApp now look like this: iPhone with iOS 10 or later, Android 4.1 or later. Also for Android it is specified that the phone must be able to receive SMS or calls during the number verification process.

Arm didn’t say much about ray tracing in the Immortalis-G715. So far, no tests or full-fledged comparisons have been presented, so it is not yet possible to assess the quality of work and the number of frames per second. At the same time, ready-made solutions will have to wait until 2023. However, Arm still shared a video that demonstrates the capabilities of the new graphics solution.

Previously, a new super-powerful Cortex-X3 processor core was reported. Less productive solutions were also presented.

If you want to buy a smart watch for the

iPhone users who for some reason don’t like Apple smartwatches will be able to use new models based on Wear OS.

If you want to buy a smart watch for the iPhone, but not an Apple Watch. Wear OS 3 supports iOS even though the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 doesn't

The first and so far the only watch on Wear OS 3 is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. And it doesn’t work with iOS. But apparently this is an artificial limitation on Samsung’s part, as it has now become known that Wear OS 3 itself can work with iOS.

Qualcomm confirmed this by saying that the upcoming Montblanc Summit 3 watch will be compatible with the iPhone. This watch will be the first with Wear OS 3 after Samsung devices. True, it will be an expensive $1,290 watch, but there should be many more Wear OS 3 models on the market this year, so iPhone owners will have a choice.

Apple has not been able to create its own 5G

Apple has yet to make headway in building its own 5G cellular modem for its smartphones and tablets.

Apple has not been able to create its own 5G modem yet. The company will continue to use Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 lines

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Qualcomm will remain the only supplier of 5G modems not only for the upcoming iPhone 14 smartphones, but also for the iPhone 15 line. That is, Apple is clearly far from the final stage in its work on its own modem .

Kuo believes that Apple will not give up on this idea and continue development, but it is not yet clear when the modem will be ready. In any case, before the launch of 6G networks, Apple has many more years. In addition, a six-year agreement between Apple and Qualcomm obliges the former to use modems by the second minimum until 2024.

It is expected that this year Apple smartphones will use the Snapdragon X65 modem, and next it will be the Snapdragon X70.
