Sony Unveils First Major PlayStation 5 Update With Many New Features

Sony has announced the imminent release of the first major system software update for the PlayStation 5. The update will be available to PS5 users worldwide starting tomorrow, April 14, 2021.

One of the most important innovations of the update is support for saving PS5 games on compatible external USB drives. With this feature, gamers will be able to transfer PS5 game files to the drive, using it as extended storage for the console’s internal memory.

A PS5 game cannot be played directly from a USB drive. However, as the user promises, transferring games from a USB drive to the internal memory of the console takes much less time than reloading them or copying them from disk. However, PS4 games can be played directly from USB storage, saving space on your PS5 console for PS5 games.

In addition, Sony has reiterated that the PS5 will have M.2 storage expansion in the future.

Another important innovation is the ability to play together on consoles of different generations using the Share Play function. PS4 and PS5 gamers can share Share Play while chatting in hangouts. PS5 users will be able to stream the screen while playing the game to their friends using the PS4 console. PS4 owners will also be able to join PS5 games using the Share Play feature, and vice versa. Additional features include sharing the screen for broadcast to a friend, and sharing a “virtual controller” or second “virtual controller” for playing together.

There are also compilations of friends’ play sessions on PS4 and PS5 consoles that you can join. The “Request to Join” feature provides quick access to sending invitations to the game, reducing the time it takes to add friends to play together.

Controls and personalized settings have been refined for PS5 consoles. For example, disabling game chat and adjusting player volume levels, preloading game updates, customizable game library, screen scaling, new trophy and statistics screen settings.

The functionality of the PlayStation App has been significantly expanded. Recently, the app has the ability to save products to a wishlist, receive notifications about online friends and change the online status of the console. As the developers promise, the app will bring even more features in the next few weeks, including the ability to connect to a multiplayer game on the PlayStation 5 using the app, manage memory on the PlayStation 5 console, compare prize collections with friends, and sort and filter products displayed in PlayStation Store.
