Sony continues to lead the smartphone image sensor market
The global market for image sensors for smartphones reached $ 15 billion in 2020, an increase of 13% over 2019. This data is contained in a report prepared by experts from the analytical company Strategy Analytics.
Analysts have named the largest supplier of image sensors for smartphones. At the end of the year, it continues to be Sony, which owns 46% of the market in monetary terms. This is followed by Samsung System LSI and OmniVision Technologies. In total, the top three companies occupy almost 85% of the market. The diagram gives an idea of the distribution of the market:
“The pandemic had little impact on the growth of the image sensor market, as their suppliers saw strong demand from smartphone OEMs, which in 2020 actively introduced high-resolution sensors and increased the number of sensors in smartphones of all segments,” said Jeffrey Matthews. (Jeffrey Mathews), Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics.
