Some Core i7s Will Not Support PCIe 4.0

As usual, before the official announcement and the start of sales, the network is replenished with rumors and preliminary tests of the new hardware. Despite the lack of manufacturing capacity for the manufacture of silicon chips, Intel is working on the preparation of large batches of components, and the first engineering samples are already in the hands of testers.
Another portion of the characteristics of the new generation of Rocket Lake processors appears again in Chinese sources. This time the testers shared some interesting information and some nuances of the “locked” version of the Core i7 11700.
RKL ES info, power, MEM OC and more
– B560 support MEM OC
– i7 11700 ES1 QV1J : FPU 120~130W / AVX512 150~160W
– i7 11700K ES2 : FPU 160W / There is a sample reach 5.0 boost
– i9 11900 ES2 QVYE : XMP support / performance is similar 9900K/10700K pic.twitter.com/LlQwXPQx9H— 포시포시 (@harukaze5719) December 27, 2020
Frequency characteristics of processors are not so interesting yet, because engineering samples operate at reduced frequencies, and we will learn reliable information about the real limits of chips in GHz from the official presentation. But, according to enthusiasts from the eastern part of the hemisphere, the Core i7 11700K and Core i7 11700 processors will differ greatly, and not in frequencies, as it was before, but in the supported functions.
So, in addition to overclocking the core itself, the locked version of the Core i7 11700 will only support PCIe 3.0, while the version with the letter K in the name will work with version 4.0, and will also have a minimum supported memory frequency of 3200 MHz. At the same time, testers previously announced support for memory overclocking in frequency on budget B560 series chipsets.
At the same time, the younger version of the Core i7 11700 will not work with XMP and, in general, increased memory frequency, remaining at 2133 MHz. But both versions include the new Intel Xe Graphics with four cores.
The flagship of the Core i9 11900 family, even without an unlocked multiplier, will be able to overclock on budget motherboards in memory frequency and will include support for PCIe 4.0.
The rest of the characteristics, including the real frequencies and power consumption, will be known later, when the testers get the first serial samples, the production of which will begin in January next year.
