SoC Apple A14X in the new iPad Pro is based on the very fast Apple M1

Published

Following rumors of a new iPad Pro next month, 9to5Mac discovered references to the new Apple A14X platform in the iOS 14.5 firmware code, the fifth beta of which was released yesterday to developers and public beta users.

Each Apple SoC has an internal codename, and iOS 14.5 includes references to the GPU from a new SoC called 13G, which is not used by any of the currently available iOS devices. Based on previous chip naming schemes and information, 9to5Mac claims that 13G hides Apple’s A14X SoC, a new version of the A14 Bionic.

9to5Mac also discovered that the A14X is based on a platform codenamed T8103, which is known as the Apple M1. This is corroborated by a recent Bloomberg report claiming that the next generation iPad Pro will have “an updated platform that rivals the Apple M1.”

Since rumors suggest that the only new iOS device to be introduced in the first half of 2021 will be the next-generation iPad Pro, it is unlikely that Apple’s A14X SoC is intended for another device. 9to5Mac also found out that the codenames for the new iPads are J517, J518, J522 and J523.

The source adds that Apple will be announcing new iPad Pro models with Thunderbolt port, improved cameras and a mini-LED display in April.
