So this is how Intel is going to fight with the new monstrous AMD processors. First tests of Xeon with HBM memory appear

Intel is about to introduce processors like the Ryzen and Epyc CPUs with V-Cache technology. We are talking about Sapphire Rapids server processors in a configuration with their own HBM memory. And today we have the opportunity to make sure that such solutions will receive an impressive performance boost.

The author of the comparison took Xeon Platinum 8472C HBM and Xeon Platinum 8490H. Apparently, both will be flagship solutions in their lines. In the first case, we are talking about a processor with 52 cores, 97.5 MB of L3 cache and a frequency of up to 3.8 GHz. The amount of HBM2e memory is unknown, but Intel itself has previously talked about 64 GB. The Xeon Platinum 8490H does not have its own HBM memory, but offers 60 cores, 112.5 MB of L3 cache and a frequency of up to 3.5 GHz.

In the CPU-Z benchmark, the processors are close. The 52-core is faster in single-threaded mode due to the frequency, and the 60-core wins in multi-threaded mode due to the higher number of cores.

But in V-Ray, the situation is completely different. The Xeon Platinum 8472C HBM scores 95,000 points, while the Xeon Platinum 8490H scores 71,800 points. That is, the first one is 32% faster! Thus, processors with their own HBM memory in certain tasks will be much faster than their counterparts without such memory.

Asus has unveiled a new motherboard design that can solve one of the main problems when building a PC – the correct placement of cables. This design is called DIY-APE Revolution and involves the placement of power connectors, SATA ports, “combs” for connecting USB and sound on the back of the board.

So far, only a video has been published that shows the concepts in black and white. This approach allows you to hide all the cable on the other side of the board.

Judging by the video, the company can release boards based on Intel B660, B760 and H610 chipsets, as well as AMD B650 with such port placement. The project has already announced the participation of Asus, Sama, LianLI, CoolterMaster, Cougar, Phanteks and Jonsbo.

This arrangement looks no worse than the Gigabyte Stealth. At the same time, DIY-APE Revolution is potentially an entire ecosystem. It is not yet known when ready-made boards of this form factor will enter the market, where they will be available and at what price.

AMD seems to have prepared another ultra-budget graphics card. There was no announcement of the novelty yet, but it has already been registered in the latest driver.

The model is called Radeon Pro W6300, that is, it is a professional accelerator. It has an analogue in the form of a mobile card Radeon Pro W6300M, and you can also expect the appearance of the gaming RX 6300, especially since there have already been rumors about it.

Specifications are not yet known, but it is expected that both professional and gaming new items will receive 2 GB of memory with a 32-bit bus and 768 stream processors. These are the characteristics of the mobile Radeon Pro W6300M. Of course, this is the card of the most basic class, but it is still more productive than most integrated GPUs.

How much such an adapter might cost is anyone’s guess, but an RX 6400 with the same GPU but 4GB of memory and a 64-bit bus costs $160.

Despite the fact that a few months ago the average prices for video cards were at the level of recommended values, individual models have room for cheaper prices and they are getting cheaper.

In particular, affordable AMD models were actively getting cheaper in the first half of the year and now they are generally not getting cheaper, but the more expensive ones continue to fall.

For example, as you can see, the Radeon RX 6950 XT, instead of 1173 euros a couple of months ago, now costs only 900 euros, and this is the most productive AMD card and, together with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, one of the most productive on the market in general. At least until the start of sales of the RTX 4090. At the same time, just a couple of months ago, the RX 6900 XT cost the same as the RX 6950 XT now, the RX 6800 XT, like the RX 6900 XT, and so on.

Things are not so good with Nvidia cards. Here, only two top models fell in price, however, both are very significant. The situation is worse with other adapters. For example, the popular RTX 3060 is now worth as much as the significantly more powerful RX 6650 XT, and the RTX 3080 Ti is 100 euros more expensive than the RX 6950 XT.
