Qualcomm has unveiled its new top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-chip system, which the company itself believes sets a new standard for premium smartphones.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 unveiled, which

Qualcomm says that the CPU performance has increased by 40% compared to its predecessor, and the GPU has become 25% more powerful. We don’t know the configuration details yet, because Qualcomm traditionally only says that it is based on Kryo processor cores and Adreno GPUs. So far, we can only talk about a frequency of 3.2 GHz.

The following are some of the main features:

  • The new platform supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3
  • The Hexagon processor features all-new architecture upgrades, including microtile output and a larger tensor accelerator that improves AI performance by up to 4.35x
  • Snapdragon introduces INT4 support for the first time
  • Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which now includes two AI processors, supports an intuitive interface that lets you use custom wake-up words
  • Qualcomm uses Cognitive ISP for the first time
  • There are new Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing
  • Includes Snapdragon X70 5G modem
  • There is support for Snapdragon Sound with lossless music streaming at 48 kHz
  • Snapadragon’s first AV1 codec support
  • Video shooting is possible in 8K/30fps and 4K/120fps

Separately, it is worth noting the Cognitive ISP, or rather its features. For example, Qualcomm says that the 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3 image sensor has some optimizations for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In addition, the new platform is somehow tuned to Sony’s new image sensors.

The platform is produced according to the 4 nm process technology. You can also highlight the support for LPDDR5x-4200 RAM.
