The drives in modern smartphones are already very fast, but, of course, they will be even faster. And today, Samsung nominally introduced the next generation of flash memory – UFS 4.0.

Smartphone storage will be faster than Xbox Series X. Samsung introduced UFS 4.0

Samsung has developed the industry’s highest performing Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 4.0 storage solution, which has received JEDEC approval.

Working with smartphone and consumer device manufacturers around the world, we are actively working to build an ecosystem for UFS 4.0 to drive the market for high performance mobile storage solutions.

Most importantly, the company revealed the main characteristics. UFS 4.0 offers speeds up to 23.2Gbps per lane, double that of UFS 3.1. As a result, thanks to the improved seventh generation V-NAND memory and proprietary controller, the new memory provides sequential read speeds up to 4200 MB / s, and write speeds can reach 2800 MB / s. This is faster than the SSD in the Xbox Series X, although it falls far short of the drive in the PlayStation 5.

Samsung also talks about improving energy efficiency. The new memory delivers 6MB/s at 1mA, a 46% improvement over UFS 3.1. In addition, the company talks about the compactness of the solution. Chip dimensions will be 11 x 13 x 1 mm, and the capacity will reach 1 TB.

Production of UFS 4.0 memory will start in the third quarter of this year. This means that the next generation of flagship smartphones will already be able to use such memory.

Extra frame adders from AMD and Nvidia were compared in one game. FSR 3 vs DLSS 3 can now only be pitted in Immortals of Aveum

Extra frame adders from AMD and Nvidia were compared in

FSR 3’s supersampling technology with Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) was tested in the game Immortals of Aveum, comparing different modes, and at the same time comparing with DLSS 3. Currently, this is the only game where you can directly compare DLSS 3 and FSR 3.

If we talk specifically about this comparison, then on the RTX 4090 video card, activating FSR 3 gives a greater performance increase, while the 1% Low and 0.2% Low indicators are less than those of DLSS 3.

In both cases, there were stutters and other manifestations of lack of performance, which was due to poor optimization of the game as a whole, but in the case of DLSS 3 there were still fewer problems.

Another interesting feature is that the game allows you to enable FSR 3 while also enabling Nvidia Reflex to reduce latency.

As for image quality, the authors from WCCF Tech did not notice any particular difference. At the same time, Nvidia DLAA cannot be enabled in the game, but FSR AA can be activated, which improves image clarity. As a reminder, there is no scaling in these modes.

You can now try out the frame renderer from FSR

AMD today launched FSR 3 supersampling technology with Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF). Currently it is only available in Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum, but this is in full form. It turns out that today you can try it out in another two dozen games.

Even at the presentation, AMD said that it would integrate Fluid Motion Frames directly into the driver, which would allow the technology to be activated in virtually any game. The full launch of this option will take place in 2024, but now the preliminary version of Adrenalin software allows you to try Fluid Motion Frames in 20 games, including a number of bestsellers.

The list of supported games includes the following projects:

  • A Plague Tale – Requiem
  • Borderlands 3
  • Control
  • Dead Space
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Dying Light 2
  • Far Cry 6
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo
  • Hitman 3
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
  • Starfield
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Unfortunately, if in the usual version Fluid Motion Frames is available for video cards starting from the Radeon RX 5000, and is also available on Nvidia and Intel cards, then the version with the driver, firstly, cuts off competitors’ cards, which is logical, and secondly, limits support to only the latest RX 7000 models.

GeForce RTX 4090 is ready for Counter Strike 2 The video

Almost immediately after the release of Counter-Strike 2, Nvidia explained what to expect in the game when using 3D cards from the GeForce RTX 40 line.

GeForce RTX 4090 is ready for Counter-Strike 2. The video card produces 543 FPS in the game

With Full HD resolution and maximum graphics settings, the flagship of the line – GeForce RTX 4090 – produces 543 FPS. Nvidia assured that the GeForce RTX 4090 in Counter-Strike 2 is 4.5 times faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 and 2.9 times faster than the GeForce RTX 2080.

At the other end is the GeForce RTX 4060, but even it provides more than 200 FPS under the same conditions. The performance gap between the GeForce RTX 4060 and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is quite small, unlike other models in the line.
