SMART Modular has DDR5 memory modules ready

SMART Modular has announced a family of DDR5 memory modules. Designed in response to explosive data growth, DDR5 memory is designed to provide increased bandwidth and performance to help process data across a variety of application segments, including supercomputers, AI and edge computing.

DDR5 technology delivers double the performance of DDR4 by doubling the burst length to BL16 and the number of banks from 16 to 32. Data transfer rate per lane has been increased from 4.8 Gbps to 6.4 Gbps. In addition, energy efficiency is improved by placing a voltage regulator on the module board and reducing the supply voltage to 1.1 V. Another important factor contributing to the higher performance of DDR5 is the dual channel DIMM topology, which allows more efficient channel utilization. DDR5 DIMMs have two 40-bit fully independent subchannels on a single module and can be used with up to 64Gb of components, which is scalable to much more module capacity than DDR4 DIMMs. All this makes DDR5 memory well-suited for servers, cloud computing and enterprise networking applications.

The family of DDR5 modules from SMART Modular has opened RDIMMs, UDIMMs and SODIMMs ranging from 16GB to 64GB.

Note that SMART Modular is an active member of the JEDEC industry organization, which developed, in particular, the DDR5 specifications. As with previous stages of DRAM technology development, SMART Modular provides OEMs with early implementation support and guidance throughout the DDR5 transition.
