Sintech CFEBM2-N adapter allows you to turn your SSD into a CFexpress Type B memory card

Sintech offers photographers and videographers a way to get around the high cost of CFexpress Type B cards. It comes in the form of an adapter that converts an M.2 2230 NVMe SSD into a specified format memory card.

CFexpress Type B cards are used in many cameras including Nikon Z9, Canon EOS R5 and Panasonic S1. They are quite expensive. For example, a 128GB SanDisk Extreme PRO CFexpress Type B card costs $250, while a 512GB ProGrade CFexpress Type B card costs $500.

Meanwhile, these cards are small SSDs with PCIe 3.0 x2 interface and support for NVMe 1.2, dressed in a special case. Of course, the higher price is largely due to thorough compatibility and reliability testing. But if the user is willing to take the risk, they can get, for example, a 512GB CFexpress Type B card for just $155. The adapter itself accounts for $44 of this amount.

The instructions for installing the SSD in the case are simple. It is recommended that you remove the label, place the drive in a case, apply thermal paste to improve heat dissipation, and close the case.

Sintech has tested the adapter with various NVMe 1.2 compliant M.2 2230 PCIe 3.0 SSDs from manufacturers such as Koioxia, Samsung, Western Digital, and Toshiba. She states that the adapter works with Canon EOS R5, C300 Mark III, C500 Mark III, Nikon Z6, Z7, D5, D500, D6, D850 cameras and Panasonic S1 and S1R cameras.

Some AMD processors may freeze after 1044 days of continuous

AMD Epyc processors of the Rome generation (the second generation of Epyc) revealed one curious feature. It lies in the fact that such a CPU can freeze after 1044 days of continuous operation.

This feature means that owners of servers based on such CPUs may need to reboot the server before the specified time in order to avoid system freezes.

The problem is related to the fact that the CPU core cannot wake up from the CC6 sleep state. That being said, AMD states that the crash time may vary depending on the spread spectrum and REFCLK frequency. The nature of the problem is of a hardware nature, so, unfortunately, it will not be possible to fix it.

In addition to rebooting, there is a second method to avoid freezing: disable CC6 sleep mode.

In general, in most cases, this problem will not affect server owners, since maintenance and installation of security updates usually occur much more often, including requiring a reboot. However, in case someone uses the Linux hot fix feature to upgrade without rebooting, they may encounter the above problem.

Diablo IV is even on the iron In Full HD

Diablo IV has already become available for a number of players, and the authors of Tom`s Hardware decided to test the game on different video cards, including very old ones, because the project has low system requirements, and gamers who participated in the beta test reported that the game feels great on older GPUs.

It turned out that even old 3D cards like the GeForce GTX 670 are enough for normal operation of the game in Full HD at minimum graphics quality settings. Even such an adapter with only 2 GB of memory provides more than 60 fps, although the 1% Low indicator drops up to 28 fps. The GTX 1050 performs better, hitting 56 fps and around 40 fps for 1% Low.

At the same resolution, but already at the maximum graphics quality settings, the GTX 1050 is no longer enough, as the 1% Low value drops to 15 fps. But the GTX 970 or RX 570 handles the game without any problems.

In the same mode, but at 1440p resolution, it is better to get something like the RX 590 or GTX 1070, although the activation of FSR 2 allows you to continue using the same GTX 970.

4K resolution traditionally places much higher demands on the graphics subsystem. Here you already need a video card of a level not lower than the Radeon RX 6600, but better than the RTX 3060. For the cherished 60 fps, you will have to buy at least an RTX 4060 Ti or RX 6700 XT.

It is also worth noting that the game does not currently support ray tracing, but soon such a mode will appear, which will increase the requirements for the GPU.

GPUs for GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards will still be produced by TSMC.

This was stated by the head of Nvidia Jensen Huang. Thus, the company’s possible cooperation with Intel or Samsung in this direction is at least strongly postponed.

Recall that recently Huang said that he is open to cooperation with Intel, and the company uses Samsung services from time to time. But, apparently, already now the developments of TSMC are superior to the solutions of competitors.

At the same time, the head of Nvidia nevertheless noted that in the event of any global problems, the company is ready to produce its GPUs at the facilities of other companies. In this case, the fears about the military conflict between Taiwan and China, which were expressed by journalists, were meant. However, Huang noted that TSMC has factories in different regions.
