Sigma fp L camera introduced

Published

on

As planned, Sigma today unveiled the fp L mirrorless camera. This full-frame camera is equipped with an L mount. It is very similar to the original fp model, but has a higher resolution – 61 megapixels versus 24.6 megapixels. Let’s clarify that the camera does not use a proprietary Foveon sensor, but a conventional sensor with a Bayer filter.

The designers have kept the small size and weight of the camera. According to the manufacturer, the fp L is the smallest model in its class. Measuring 113 x 70 x 45 mm with battery and memory card, it weighs only 427 g. The Sigma fp weighs 370 g with the same dimensions.

The new camera uses a hybrid autofocus system and only an electronic shutter. The camera allows you to shoot UHD 4K video at a frame rate of 30 fps on removable media. Cinema DNG RAW, ProRes RAW, or Blackmagic RAW video can be output to an external device. At Full HD resolution, the frame rate can be up to 120 fps.

The Sigma fp L features a USB-C port that can be used for power. Connecting with a USB cable to a PC turns fp L into a very expensive webcam.

At the same time, the EVF-11 electronic viewfinder is presented, which is attached to the side of the camera. It uses USB and HDMI ports. In this case, the USB connection is a pass-through, but HDMI is not. An electronic viewfinder adds a headphone jack. The viewfinder features a 3.68 million-dot OLED panel with a magnification of 0.83x. The viewfinder eyepiece can be rotated upward. It is noteworthy that when you bring the camera to your face, the camera’s liquid crystal display does not turn off automatically. Switching to the electronic viewfinder must be done manually. The viewfinder is compatible with Sigma fp and fp L cameras.

The new camera is protected from dust and moisture. It should be on sale in mid-April at a price of $ 2,499. The camera comes with an EVF-11 electronic viewfinder for $ 2,999. A separate viewfinder will be offered for $ 699.
