Should Qualcomm start to worry? MediaTek to unveil Dimensity 8100 platform on March 1st to compete with Snapdragon 888
According to an insider known as Digital Chat Station, on March 1, MediaTek will officially introduce the Dimensity 8000 single-chip system. This model will be a step below the flagship Dimensity 9000: its expected performance is between Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 888. However, along with Dimensity 8000, the Chinese company will introduce also its more productive version – Dimensity 8100.
The informant says that the Dimensity 8100 components will operate at a higher frequency. Therefore, more performance, and in this case, Dimensity 8100 can reach the same level with Snapdragon 888. That is, MediaTek will have adequate competition with both Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888. This is an unpleasant situation for Qualcomm, and rumors say that that the company is accelerating the pre-production of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ so as not to lose its edge in the segment.
Dimensity 8000 is a 5nm platform with a CPU that includes four Arm Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.75 GHz and four Arm Cortex-A55 cores, as well as an Arm Mali-G510 MC6 GPU. The same components are likely to be found in the Dimensity 8100, but the frequency will be higher. However, here MediaTek can present some surprises.
According to an insider, some manufacturers are already considering not Dimensity 8000, but Dimensity 8100 for their smartphones. The first ready-made devices on the Dimensity 8000/8100 are attributed to Realme and Redmi. In the case of Redmi, it will be one of the models in the K50 line.
Digital Chat Station is a verified insider. Previously, he was the first to accurately announce the characteristics and release dates of Redmi K30, K40, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 11.

One Galaxy S23 Ultra costs Samsung $469 with a retail price of $1,200

The flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra sells for $1,200, and the company costs almost three times less.
According to Counterpoint analysis, the production of the flagship costs Samsung about $469. Thus, Samsung makes more than $700 on each Galaxy S23 Ultra, but this, of course, does not take into account many factors, including marketing, R&D and so on. And even assembly is not taken into account here, although it is usually very cheap in terms of one device.
More than a third of the production price of the flagship comes from the SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, that is, the platform costs about $ 165, which is very, very much. Second place in price goes to the screen (18% of the cost), followed by cameras (14%) and memory (11%). 67% of the cost of production comes from Qualcomm and Samsung components.

Japan will try to transfer energy from space to Earth as early as 2025

Japan is going to transfer energy from space to Earth as early as 2025. We are talking about the transfer of energy received from solar panels placed in space. Of course, without any cables.
There are few details about the project yet. It is known that it will be implemented by private companies with the support of the state. It is also reported that the project will involve small orbiting satellites, which will transmit energy in the microwave range to Earth.
In itself, the technology of energy transmission over the air is not at all new, but in the case of such a project, we are talking about distances of hundreds of kilometers. The Japanese space agency JAXA made a breakthrough in this area back in 2015, when scientists managed to transfer 1.8 kW of power, but then the distance was only 50 meters.
At the same time, even if Japanese scientists succeed, the technology of transmitting solar energy directly from space is unlikely to become widespread in the foreseeable future, since now calculations show that about 7 billion dollars need to be spent on generating 1 GW of power in orbit, and how much of them will be able to deliver to Earth, and it is not yet clear at all.

This is the second generation of the iconic NH-D15 super cooler. There are not many changes, but it’s still a long time to wait for the release

Noctua first showed a new generation of CPU cooler NH-D15.
Outwardly, the cooler has changed very little, so they decided not to change the name. But, for example, there were eight heat pipes against six in the first generation. In addition, the gap between the ribs was reduced from 1.9 to 1.6 mm.
Two new-generation 140mm fans will be responsible for airflow, details of which are not yet available. All of this combined should make the iconic cooler a bit more performant, although now, almost 10 years after its release, it is still one of the best-performing CPU coolers on the market.
Despite the demonstration, the release of the novelty is still far away: Noctua is going to release the cooler only next year.
