‘She needs to find the next Apple’ – Foxconn wants to make half of the world’s electric vehicles

Published

According to Reuters, Foxconn is going to become the same company in the electric vehicle (EV) market that it has become for the iPhone, that is, the largest manufacturer, but first “it needs to find the next Apple.”

Foxconn’s ambitions are very aggressive: by 2025, the company wants to take 5% of the global electric vehicle market and generate $33 billion in revenue. Foxconn’s longer-term goal is to produce almost half of the world’s electric vehicles.

A Taiwanese contract manufacturer faces market competition to build electric vehicles. Analysts say Foxconn needs a major contract to gain a foothold in the new market.

“If they don’t get a contract this year, next year will be more difficult,” Daiwa Capital Markets analyst Kylie Huang said in a statement.

The company will provide an update on its electric vehicle business at a financial report press conference on March 15.

“The results of many of our joint projects will be implemented one by one in 2023,” Foxconn said in a statement to Reuters. “The demand for electric vehicles is causing an upheaval in an industry where established traditional automakers are trying to find cleaner and smarter mobility solutions.”

The company is developing a specialized supply chain, including chips and batteries, and has acquired a former General Motor plant in Lordstown, Ohio. Foxconn has also hired former Nissan executive Jun Seki to lead the automotive division.

Foxconn is banking on its Mobility in Harmony EV, or MIH, platform. The company calls MIH the “Android system” for electric vehicles and is looking for partners.

First truly new car in 17 years The legendary sixth generation

The Japanese resource BestCarWeb provided details about the completely new Mitsubishi Delica. The current generation car has been produced since 2007 and is already quite outdated (there was a restyling, but five years ago). The prototype of the new sixth generation Delica was demonstrated at the Japan Mobility Show last year – the car has not just a bold, but a very bold design. The production model will not be as futuristic, but it will retain many of the features of the concept.

The width and height of the sixth generation Delica will be 1850 mm, the wheelbase will be 2850 mm.

Nissan Qashqai 2025 Declassified

Carscoops has declassified the Nissan Qashqai 2025. The official premiere of this car will take place this year, but the resource has already published a high-quality image of the crossover, revealing the characteristics and equipment.

Nissan Qashqai 2025 Declassified

The updated Qashqai will retain its recognizable design, but the edges will now be sharper – in the spirit of the Ariya electric crossover. The headlights will be different: they will finally be divided into two floors, and at the bottom there will be an LED jumper, traditional for new cars. The radiator grille will change – the chrome frame in the shape of the letter V will disappear from it. There will be much fewer changes at the rear.

New colors and materials will appear in the interior of the Nissan Qashqai 2025, and the design of the interface of the proprietary media system will change (the diagonal of its screen will probably increase). The equipment will include wireless smartphone charging, a 10.8-inch diagonal projection screen, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic roof, Bose acoustics and front seats with heating, ventilation and massage, as well as a number of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control.

The entire line of engines will be electrified – to a small extent (a “mild” hybrid based on a 1.3-liter turbo engine producing 158 hp) or to a greater extent (a plug-in hybrid with a 1.5-liter engine that is not connected to the wheels, and a 188-horsepower electric motor). And after 2025, a fully electric Qashqai will appear.
