Sellers of used graphics cards on Aliexpress have mastered a new way of cheating. They apply new markings to memory chips, thereby masking the problem of the “early Micron”
A few weeks ago, there was a story that miners in China began to sell their video cards by pre-tinting the chips: prolonged operation at high temperatures leads to the fact that the GPU, memory chips and textolite near these elements begin to fade, acquiring a characteristic yellow tint. And now, ex-miners have come up with a new way to deceive potential buyers: they have begun to apply new markings to memory chips, thus rejuvenating Micron chips.
Nvidia has never officially acknowledged the problem, but various repairers claim that the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti crashes seen immediately after its release in 2018 were due to Micron’s raw GDDR6 memory labeled 8PA77. Still, Nvidia partially confirmed these rumors by starting to equip the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with Samsung memory – and the problem gradually disappeared. Actually, the repairmen did the same: after replacing a set of Micron chips with Samsung chips, video cards (for the most part) started to work normally. Later, these 3D cards were also equipped with fresher Micron chips, which worked fine.
Now let’s go back to 2023. The boom in the production of cryptocurrencies with the help of video cards has ended, miners have begun to massively put them up for sale. Among a large number of such 3D accelerators, there is also the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti – you need to be especially careful when buying them, because, as it turned out, there are models with “fake” memory on sale: the marking on them – 9XB77 D9WCW – indicates the presence of fresh chips Micron. But in fact, this is a sham: just run a scalpel over the chip – and a completely different marking is found under it – 8PA77. All this is well shown in the video below (up to the fifth minute there is a theory and a presentation of the essence of the problem, and the most interesting – further).
How the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with 8PA77 memory survived to this day (and even working in mining) is a big question. However, not only miners, but also gamers can sell them. But the fact is that there are such video cards, and they are sold on AliExpress. So if you want to buy a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti cheaply, you need to be very careful.

The cheapest video card with 16 GB of memory, and even with a unique cooler. Acer Predator BiFrost Arc A770 sells for $340

Another Intel video card has become cheaper. This time we are talking about the most expensive offer in the company’s line – Arc A770 with 16 GB of memory. Such an Acer-made card sells for $340.
Before the price reduction, the card was asking for $400. It is worth recalling that the A770 is available in two versions: with 8 and 16 GB. The first has already become cheaper, and sometimes up to 270 dollars. The second fell in price for the first time.
The Acer Predator BiFrost Arc A770 adapter stands out for its unique cooling system with one regular fan and one centripetal fan. This is currently the cheapest 3D card with 16 GB of memory on the market.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti will be four times slower than RTX 4090? New details emerge about Nvidia’s more affordable graphics card

The GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card will be released in mid-April, and more and more data about even more affordable cards began to appear on the Web. In particular, a TechPowerUp employee shared details about the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, which should follow the RTX 4070.
According to him, the new GPU will operate at frequencies of 2310-2535 MHz. “Premium” versions will boast a frequency of 2685 MHz. We don’t know exactly the characteristics of the graphics core yet, but the available data speaks of 4352 CUDA cores. In this case, the performance of the adapter will be approximately 22.1 TFLOPS. This, for example, is almost four times lower than the RTX 4090.
According to the leaks, the RTX 4060 Ti will also only get 8 GB of memory and a 128-bit bus. There are no rumors about the price yet.

Screen replacement up to $760, motherboard replacement up to $880. Named the cost of spare parts for Huawei P60, P60 Pro and Mate X3

Yesterday, Huawei officially unveiled the flagships P60, P60 Pro, P60 Art and Mate X3, and today a price list for repair parts for these models has appeared. Prices are unlikely to surprise, unless we are talking about replacing key components.
When it comes to the screen, the Mate X3’s internal display will cost the most to replace, with the screen alone costing $760, not to mention labor fees. Screens for the P60, P60 Pro, and P60 Art are cheaper at $335, $365, and $395, respectively. It is noteworthy that the displays of these models are exactly the same.
The price of the motherboard for Huawei P60 is $445, for Huawei P60 Pro it is already $630, and for Huawei P60 Art it is even $880. Even for the Mate X3, the motherboard is cheaper at $760.
The cost of other components is lower: the back cover is $55-85, the telephoto module is $85-120, the USB-C port is up to $22.
