Seagate Expects 50TB Hard Drive Capacity By 2026
The growing volume of data generated in the world is prompting storage companies to develop appropriate technologies. Seagate, which recently launched a 20TB hard disk drive, has confirmed its previous plan – the manufacturer expects to increase the volume of such drives to 30TB and even 50TB in the coming years.
Hard drives are in demand even with the growing popularity of solid state drives. The average hard drive capacity is constantly growing. In 2018, it was 2.2 TB, in 2019 – 2.8 TB, and the preliminary estimate for 2020 is 3.7 TB.
Seagate expects 30TB hard drives to be available by 2023, with 50TB models expected in 2026. The move to larger storage drives is appealing to corporate customers because it can lower the total cost of ownership.
