The problem isn’t AI itself, but how people use it.

MIT professor Daron Acemoglu thinks that the main problem of artificial intelligence is its misuse by humans. Organizations applying statistical pattern recognition to large datasets are gaining too much advantage over consumers, workers and competitors, Acemoglu said.

AI can benefit consumers by helping companies create better products, Acemoglu noted. For example, AI-powered analytics can be used to improve product quality and better meet customer needs. However, the technology is currently wreaking havoc on the market and going down the wrong path. The main problem is that companies that collect a lot of data about their customers can also use AI-powered analytics to maximize financial benefits from every transaction.

For example, retailers use a “price discrimination” method to offer different prices to different customers. The data gives retailers an idea of ​​how much certain segments of consumers need or want a product, and how much they are willing to pay. Another method involves displaying personalized ads at the user’s “most vulnerable moments” for the sake of maximum effectiveness.

These methods benefit companies, but they also suppress competition and reduce the amount of money customers can spend elsewhere. According to Acemoglu, this increases inequality and discrimination.

AI is also changing the relationship between businesses and their workers. New inventions were taking people out of jobs and creating jobs for others long before AI. Now the scale and pace of the upcoming transformations have changed. AI is already changing the way we work in industries from healthcare to manufacturing and finance. AI-driven automation has the potential to further exacerbate economic inequality, forcing some workers to shift to low-paying jobs or be unemployed altogether.

According to Acemoglu, smart regulation will help solve such problems. The worst-case scenario can be avoided if policies define rules that restrict the use of AI for certain applications, including automation and certain forms of data collection. These rules could give ordinary people the chance to benefit from the artificial intelligence revolution, not just the large corporations that are currently driving research and implementation.

The exchange revealed that a cross-chain bridge connected to its BNB chain was attacked, allowing hackers to move BNB tokens off the network. Now the network has been restored, and the clients’ funds, according to Binance, are safe.

The fact of the theft of funds contributed to a sharp drop in the BNB rate by almost 5%, but after a few hours, almost half of the fall was redeemed.

According to investigators, the 34-year-old cybercriminal acted in collusion with other hackers. Vashon-Desjardins himself played the role of an attacker: he infected the corporate networks of various companies with a virus and then demanded a ransom from them. Organizations from the USA, Canada and a number of European countries suffered from the activities of the criminal.

It is noted that, in addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a fine on Vashon-Desjardins in the amount of $ 21 million. Also, the criminal will have to pay compensation to the companies affected by his actions. The amount of damages has not yet been established.
