Satellites of the future: AI autonomy and cloud system will become a reality
The principal investigator at the SmartSat Cooperative Research Center (CRC) says future satellites will have the ability to make autonomous decisions, be equipped with artificial intelligence, and be able to operate in their own cloud system.
In June, a research project called SCARLET (SpaceCraft Autonomy Research Laboratory) was launched to implement this idea.
“Australia has enormous expertise in software, technology and artificial intelligence. And now our plan is to transfer this experience to space,” says Zubert, who worked at NASA for almost ten years.

Once they reach orbit, satellites and other spacecraft are relatively simple technology. They can take pictures or collect data, but this information must be transmitted to Earth and it takes time to receive the data. Due to the way data is transmitted to Earth and the constant movement of satellites, it can take up to a day to receive the information you need.
An excellent example is the early detection of fires or smoke. A SmartSat project called Kanyini is exploring this possibility using an artificial intelligence algorithm that analyzes images directly on board the satellite. To test the technology, the developers plan to demonstrate early smoke detection using AI processing on satellite images, where spectral bands are analyzed to distinguish smoke from other signals that may look similar, such as clouds or fog.
The delay in receiving data also affects how satellites are controlled in space. In most cases, satellites in low Earth orbit must be individually tracked and instructed to move out of the way of other satellites or other objects that may pose a potential collision hazard.
It’s fine if we only have a few satellites, but with “constellations” like Starlink that have 42,000 satellites, overpopulation begins. How to control such a “constellation”? To do this, it is necessary to give satellites autonomy.
The last and most complex type of future satellite is the “space cloud” – a network of interconnected satellites in which there is little or no human intervention. In such a space cloud, satellites of various architectures can perform their own specific tasks: take pictures, process data, and a third one can transmit data to Earth. At the same time, they all interact with each other and avoid collisions.
This will significantly speed up the processes of discovering, analyzing and communicating critical information.

Look out, Toyota Camry. Hybrid Ford Mondeo presented: 255 hp, consumption 3.8 l/100 km and rich equipment with a 27-inch screen

Ford today officially unveiled the Mondeo hybrid sedan in China. It will be produced at the facilities of the Changan Ford joint venture.
The appearance of the current generation hybrid Mondeo (the sedan is sold only in China) magically coincided with the premiere of the new Camry, which relies specifically on hybrid power plants. These models are already competing for consumers’ wallets, and with the release of the hybrid Mondeo, the competition will only intensify.
Interestingly, the Mondeo hybrid has become not only the most economical in the line, but also the most powerful: the total power of the power plant elements (it consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and one electric motor) is 255 hp. Consumption – 3.81 l/100 km. It should be borne in mind that the Mondeo is a regular hybrid, not a plug-in one. That is, there will not be a moment when, when the traction battery is discharged, the consumption increases almost significantly.
In terms of dimensions (4935 x 1875 x 1500 mm, wheelbase – 2945 mm) and equipment, the hybrid is no different from the gasoline versions (they are available with 1.5 and 2.0 liter turbo engines).
The sedan is equipped with a panoramic roof, light and rain sensors, keyless entry, a telematics system, a digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch diagonal screen and, of course, a 27-inch screen on the front panel. True, the age of this infotainment system is revealed by the old Qualcomm Snapdragon 820A SoC and the lack of a built-in 5G modem (but there is an LTE modem).
The cost of the hybrid Mondeo is 27 thousand dollars. The ST-Line version with “sporty” decor is noticeably more expensive – $31 thousand.

Huawei has finally defeated American sanctions. Nova 12 Ultra will be the first smartphone with the Chinese Kirin SoC and a 5G modem

Due to American sanctions, Huawei was unable to produce smartphones with 5G modems for a long time – the company was simply cut off from supplies of both the necessary components and ready-made single-chip systems with integrated 5G support. But now everything will change: Huawei has its own SoC with a 5G modem, and the first smartphone based on it will be the Nova 12 Ultra.
This model, designated by catalog number ADA-AL00U, has already been certified in China, and the description specifically indicates 5G support. And the well-known insider Digital Chat Station revealed additional details.
According to him, the new mid-level Huawei smartphone (the Nova line is one of these) will have a Kirin 9000s SoC with a 5G modem. It will differ from the regular version of Kirin 9000s by a slightly lower (only 130 MHz) frequency of the large core. The Kirin 9000s configuration, we recall, looks like this: a large core with a frequency of 2.49 GHz, three medium cores with a frequency of 2.15 GHz and four small cores with a frequency of 1.53 GHz. According to rumors, the premiere of the Nova 12 line will take place in December.
Previously, Digital Chat Station was the first to accurately report the specifications and release dates of Redmi K50 and Xiaomi 12.
