Samsung has announced that it will unveil its first 7th generation V-NAND flash-based consumer SSD in the second half of the year.

This flash memory features a 176-layer design. In comparison, the sixth generation V-NAND consisted of 100 layers of cells, while the first generation had 23 layers.

Samsung expects the next generation of flash to meet not only PCIe 4.0, but also PCIe 5.0 with 2Gbps I / O bandwidth.

In addition, the company already has a working eighth generation V-NAND chip with over 200 layers of cells.
