Samsung will present 5nm SoC Exynos 1080 – the hardware basis of smartphones Galaxy S21

It is possible to mark in the calendar the date of the announcement of another flagship SoC for next-generation mobile devices – Samsung sent out invitations, confirming that the announcement of the 5nm Exynos 1080 platform (the successor to last year’s Exynos 980) will take place on November 12. Presumably, this SoC (along with the Snapdragon 875) will be used in the upcoming Galaxy S21 flagships.
Apple and Huawei, as you know, have already “shot” and presented their own 5nm mobile processors – A14 Bionic (which formed the basis of the new iPad Air and iPhone 12 line) and Kirin 9000 (Mate40 line). Samsung and Qualcomm remain. By the way, the second one had previously planned the Snapdragon 875 announcement on December 1, and just the other day an engineering sample of the new flagship SoC Qualcomm was noted in AnTutTu, setting a new absolute record (847 868 points, which is 200 thousand more than the result of its predecessor).
The latest reports indicate that the Exynos 1080, formerly called the Exynos 2100, will debut as the first 5nm SoC with high-performance 3GHz ARM Cortex-A78 processor cores and Mali-G78 GPUs. Recently, there were rumors that the Exynos 1080 will serve as the basis for the vivo X60 flagship smartphone, which will be released in China very soon.
The day before, an engineering sample of Exynos 1080 was seen in the AnTuTu database – its total result was 693,600 points when evaluating 181,099 in the CPU test. With this result, the Exynos 1080 outperforms the Snapdragon 865+ processor found in many top smartphones in the second half of 2020, including the Galaxy Note20 Ultra. At the same time, in the GPU test, this Exynos 1080 sample scored nearly 300,000 points, well ahead of the latest gaming smartphones like the ROG Phone 3 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, which scores “only” 258,171 points.
Judging by other leaks, besides the flagship Exynos 1080, Samsung is also preparing a mid-level SoC Exynos 981 with support for Bluetooth 5.2 – this is not how it passed the Bluetooth SIG certification.
Earlier it was also reported that Samsung and AMD are preparing a more powerful processor with RDNA graphics for laptops with Windows 10 on ARM. But recently a trusted IceUniverse insider that SoC Exynos with an integrated graphics accelerator based on AMD technologies will appear on the market no earlier than 2022 or 2023.
