Samsung will pay royalties to Nokia for several years. The companies signed a license agreement

Nokia has announced that it has signed a new patent licensing agreement with Samsung. The previous agreement expired at the end of 2022.

Under the agreement, which covers Nokia’s fundamental inventions in 5G and other technologies, Samsung will pay license fees to Nokia over several years starting January 1, 2023. The terms of the agreement remain confidential between the parties.

Jenny Lukander, president of Nokia Technologies, said: “Samsung is a leader in the smartphone industry and we are delighted to have reached a settlement agreement with them. The agreement gives both companies the freedom to innovate and reflects the strength of Nokia’s patent portfolio, years of investment in research and development, and contributions to cellular standards and other technologies.”

Nokia has invested more than 130 billion euros in its patent portfolio, which has been spent on research and development since 2000. We are talking about about 20,000 patents, including more than 4,500 patent families related to 5G.

There is a fundraiser on Kickstarter for a very unusual card reader. Asuizo's device is called CAZE, and the manufacturer calls it an All-in-one solution.

Sales are scheduled to begin on March 22.
