Samsung PM1653 solid state drive introduced
Samsung Electronics today announced the industry’s most powerful SAS 24G (SAS-4) solid state drive. The novelty received the designation PM1653. According to the manufacturer, the use of the SAS-4 interface allows it to maintain twice the speed compared to SAS-3. The PM1653 is also the industry’s first SAS-4 SSD based on 6th Generation V-NAND (over 100 layers). Through the use of these microcircuits, it is possible to manufacture SSDs with capacities from 800 GB to 30.72 TB.
Building the SAS 24G ecosystem requires not only drives, but also the appropriate host bus adapters (HBAs). On this issue, Samsung is working closely with Broadcom, a leading HBA vendor, to ensure a smooth and timely transition to the next generation of SAS.
The PM1653 is optimized for high-performance enterprise servers. It delivers the industry’s highest random access read performance – up to 800K IOPS. The sequential read speed can reach 4300MB / s, which is the maximum available speed for the SAS 24G interface. For increased reliability, the drive is equipped with two SAS ports. It is compatible with the SAS-3 platform.
Samsung has already started shipping preview samples of the PM1653. Mass production is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.

For $ 656 they give the XFX Speedster Merc 319. But this is in the USA, that is, the price is excluding taxes. In Europe, the cheapest option already with taxes is given for 720 euros, and this is the Sapphire Nitro card.
According to AMD itself, the RX 7900 XT is only 5-7% faster than the RX 6950 XT. At the same time, the cheapest RX 7900 XT will now cost $ 800. The GeForce RTX 40 line also does not offer similar price-performance ratios, since the RTX 4070 Ti will cost at least the same $ 800.

Prices for NAND flash products have not yet bottomed out and may continue to fall. TrendForce analysts say that the average selling price of drives in the second quarter may decrease by another 5-10% relative to current values. At the same time, prices for the memory itself will no longer fall.
Analysts note that prices continue to fall, despite the fact that memory suppliers reduce production volumes. The reasons are that there is still an excess of such memory in the market, because the demand for products such as servers, smartphones and laptops is still too weak. Analysts expect prices to recover in the fourth quarter, but only if demand for devices remains stable.
Analysts expect the largest decline in the segment of eMMC and UFS drives in the mobile device market and in the corporate market.
