Samsung phone shipments fell below 300 million units for the first time in 9 years

The main cause was the coronavirus pandemic. Unpleasant, but not fatal.

Information published by resource Gizchina. The report states that Samsung’s total shipments at the end of the third quarter of 2020 were 189.4 million units. The company’s total shipments this year are estimated at 270 million units. Samsung plans to ship 307 million mobile phones in 2021, of which 287 million are smartphones and the rest are ordinary phones.

In addition, Samsung Electronics plans to launch 49.8 million flagship models in 2021, including the Galaxy S21 series and foldable smartphones. According to reports, after the official launch of the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung will introduce a series of budget 5G smartphones. According to forecasts, Samsung, in addition to expanding the range of flagship smartphones, will pay special attention to the market for affordable smartphones and try to take Huawei’s place. Samsung’s only mid-range 5G phone this year was the Galaxy A51 5G.
