Samsung may be preparing a 432MP sensor for smartphones

We already wrote that Samsung is working on a new image sensor, for which the company has registered the Hexa²pixel trademark. Then it was assumed that the resolution of the matrix will be 200 megapixels. However, Samsung already has a pair of 200-megapixel sensors, both of which use Tetra²pixel pixel binning technology. This means that perhaps the resolution of a sensor with Hexa²pixel technology will be higher. But for how long?

Everything is pretty simple. The name of the technology refers to the possibilities of combining pixels in the Bayer filter. In 200-megapixel sensors (Tetra²pixel) it can be 4-in-1 or 16-in-1. Accordingly, in Hexa²pixel – 6-in-1 or 36-in-1. If 36 is multiplied by 12 (here it is assumed that the resolution of the image will be exactly 12 megapixels with the use of pixel binning technology in the maximum configuration), then we get 432 megapixels. Perhaps Samsung will round up the number of pixels to 450, as it did with 200-megapixel sensors (there are 192 megapixels).

Naturally, while this is only guesswork and assumptions, but one can hardly doubt that Samsung will not limit itself to 200-megapixel sensors. Earlier rumors attributed to the company the intention to release a 600-megapixel sensor with an optical format of 1 / 0.57 inches (that is, almost twice as large as an inch!), So a sensor with a resolution of 450 megapixels and an optical format slightly larger than an inch seems even more plausible. But it is obvious that if such a sensor is being prepared, then this year it is definitely not worth waiting for.

Suppliers fear low demand for iPhone 14, but Apple is optimistic

According to sources in the supply chain, Apple partners are not sure about the demand for upcoming smartphones. In addition to fears associated with too revolutionary changes in the new series, suppliers are worried about possible global inflation. At the same time, Cupertino is confident that they will be able to sell the planned number of devices, they even asked to increase the supply of components by 5%. Apple plans to sell at least 95 million finished devices.

In addition, the pessimism of suppliers is fueling a possible increase in prices for smartphones, this applies to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. But the basic versions are likely to be available at the same price as the 13th line.

The iPhone 14 is expected to have a minimum storage capacity of 128GB and prices start at $800. The presentation of new devices is expected in September.
