Samsung has inflated prices for image sensors for smartphones

Published

on

Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of image sensors for smartphones and competes with Sony. The South Korean giant is the world’s second largest supplier of CMOS image sensors.

Amid a large shortage of image sensors, Samsung reportedly increased prices by about 40%. Moreover, sources say that other suppliers of image sensors have also increased prices approximately, however, the increase averaged about 20%.

The source also reports that Samsung has significantly increased orders for 28nm products to meet demand. However, the production capacity at the company’s foundry is not enough.

The company is reportedly planning to invest in machinery and transfer it to the United Microelectronics Corporation (also known as UMC) for manufacturing to ensure higher productivity. The report also says that the deal between the two companies is currently under discussion.

It was also reported recently that Samsung is planning to cut some of its DRAM production capacity as the company wants to make sure that the CMOS chips are available in the right quantities to customers.
