This week, users filed a class action lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the South Korean giant of covering up a widespread defect that caused the rear camera glass on Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones to unexpectedly break during normal use.
The lawsuit says the issue affects smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 +, Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, Galaxy S20 + 5G, Galaxy S20 5G, Galaxy S20 Ultra / LTE, Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G.
The lawsuit was filed on April 27, 2021 in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey. Samsung is accused of fraud, breach of warranty and several consumer protection laws. The document states that the phones were manufactured and sold with a defect in the glass cover of the main camera module, which “breaks spontaneously, without the use of external force, even when the phone is placed in a protective case.”
The lawsuit states that the damage is a known defect, which is also common to other previously released Samsung phones.
Lawyers say Samsung was aware of the issue and did nothing.
