Samsung did what Apple didn’t. Giant Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra passed the bend test, unlike the iPad Pro

Blogger JerryRigEverything decided this time not to test a smartphone, but a tablet. And his choice fell on the new giant Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

Samsung did what Apple didn't. Giant Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra passed the bend test, unlike the iPad Pro

Recall that this is a tablet with a screen diagonal of 14.6 inches, that is, more than many modern laptops.

In this case, the bend test becomes the most relevant. Especially given the case thickness of only 5.5 mm!

And, surprisingly, the tablet passed this test. The device did not burst or even crack. Here it would be appropriate to recall the iPad Pro on the SoC M1, which did not pass a similar test, despite its smaller dimensions and greater thickness.

Exactly how Samsung managed to significantly strengthen the design will show the analysis, but this is definitely a plus for the device. As for the rest of the tests, they, as always, do not make much sense.

There are no cardinal changes – these are all the same ultra-affordable devices with the appropriate parameters. Since technically the novelties are almost identical, we will talk about them as a single product.

So, the tablet still has a seven-inch screen with a resolution of only 1024 x 600 pixels. This is a very low resolution for 2022, but the price of the tablet is only $60 ($110 for the Kids version).

It is based on an unnamed 2 GHz quad-core processor, which is 30% faster than the solution in the previous generation of the tablet. RAM has doubled, but it’s only 2 GB. Flash memory is available 16 or 32 GB, since there is a slot for microSD. Also autonomy increased by 40%, and now Amazon promises up to 10 hours of work. From the rest, we can note the appeared USB-C port, a 2 megapixel camera and three colors.

Apple wants to use E Ink screens in the iPhone

Apple may start using E Ink screens in its devices. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo spoke about this.

Apple wants to use E Ink screens in the iPhone and iPad. The company is testing similar displays as auxiliary displays for flexible models.

Apple is testing an E Ink display for future foldable devices. The E Ink color display can be the go-to solution for foldable devices that need a cover or second screen due to its excellent power savings

Kuo says that Apple considers such screens as additional ones. For example, it can be a small secondary screen on a foldable iPhone or a screen on an iPad case.

E Ink screens only consume energy to change the image, so they are great for such tasks. We have already seen smartphones with such screens, so there is nothing new for the market.

When such devices can enter the market is not yet clear, but Apple may not release the first foldable smartphones until 2025, according to the same analyst.
