Samsung, come on, goodbye. Apple was the last to hit the 5G party, but immediately took the lead

According to Strategy Analytics, Samsung is no longer the most successful 5G smartphone seller. At the end of the first quarter, the South Korean giant yielded first place to Apple, which took the lead thanks to the iPhone 12 line, which received support from fifth-generation networks and was quite actively bought by users in the United States, China and Europe.

According to analysts, 40.4 million 5G iPhones were sold in the first quarter of this year, which allowed Apple to control almost a third of the smartphone market – 30.2%. Surprisingly, Oppo came in second with 21.5 million 5G smartphones and a market share of 16.1%. Vivo closes the top three with a result of 19.4 million 5G smartphones and 14.5% of the market.

According to the results of the first three months of this year, Samsung was in the fourth line of the rating. The share of the company has decreased by almost three times compared to the results of the first quarter of 2020. Now 5G-smartphones of the South Korean giant occupy 12.7% of the market against 34.6% a year earlier. Samsung devices shipped 17 million units supporting fifth generation networks.

Xiaomi managed to break into the top 5, taking 12.4% of the market and shipping 16.6 million phones. It is noteworthy that the demand for mobile devices supporting fifth generation networks has grown by almost 5.5 times. If in the first quarter of last year, shipments of 5G smartphones amounted to 24 million units, then over the past quarter they amounted to 133.9 million units.
