Chinese smartphone maker Realme said it has sold more than 200 million phones since its founding just over five years ago, most of them sold outside China.

Data from market intelligence firm Counterpoint Research shows that only four companies – Vivo, Huawei, Samsung and Apple – took less time to ship the same number of devices. In total, just 14 companies worldwide have sold more than 200 million phones to date.

“We were born when there were more than 700 smartphone brands in the world,” said Xu Qi, chief marketing officer of Realme. “We are extremely proud to have become one of the world’s top 10 brands over the past five years.”

There were more than 700 phone brands in 2017, but that number had dropped to about 250 in September, according to Counterpoint Research.

Xu said Realme is ready to venture into premium phones with the upcoming launch of Realme GT 5 Pro, which will be one of the first phones to feature Qualcomm’s latest high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and Sony’s new Lytia camera sensor.
