Samsung showed the 980 Pro SSD with PCIe 4.0 at the beginning of the year, but it is only now entering the market. The SSD impressed with its declared characteristics initially, but it turned out that the final specifications are even more interesting.
So, the read speed of the drive reaches 7000 MB / s, and the write speed is 5000 MB / s! This appears to be the fastest consumer SSD in this format (M.2) so far, and even the impressive PlayStation 5 is not nearly as fast.
The performance here is also appropriate – 1 million IOPS on read and write operations (4KB)! All this was achieved not only thanks to the new interface. The SSD uses Samsung’s latest Elpis Controller, V-NAND MLC memory, and has 1GB of DDR4 memory as a cache. In terms of reliability, the TBW (total rewrites) rate reaches 600, and Samsung provides the new product with a five-year warranty.
However, all this is true only for the older version with a volume of 1 TB. The 500 GB modification can offer speeds of 6900 and 5000 MB / s for reading and writing, respectively, and performance in these modes reaches 800,000 and 1 million IOPS, respectively. TBW indicator – 300.
The younger model with a capacity of 250 GB provides speeds of 6400 and 2700 MB / s and performance – 500,000 and 600,000 IOPS. TBW – 150. No price data yet.
