Sales of “traditional” PCs in the EMEA region grew by 44.1% over the year

The traditional PC market in EMEA, which includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, posted impressive growth in the first quarter of 2021. On an annualized basis, sales of desktops, notebooks and workstations rose 44.1%. In just three months from January to March, 23.9 million PCs were sold. Such data is contained in a report prepared by specialists of the analytical company IDC.

In the commercial segment, the growth was 30.1%, in the consumer segment – 65.7%. It is easy to guess that it is associated with a pandemic, due to which a huge number of people began to work, study and have fun at home. To do this, they needed additional personal computers and other electronic devices.

It is notable that market consolidation continues to slow down. This is evidenced by the decrease in the share of the top five suppliers from 82.4% in the first quarter of 2020 to 80.5% in the first quarter of 2021.

The market leader is HP, which was able to increase sales in annual terms by 41.2%. Since this figure is inferior to the general one, the share of HP for the year decreased from 26.4% to 25.8%.

The Lenovo company, which occupied 26.2% of the market a year ago, occupies 25.0% according to the results of the last quarter.

The third place belongs to Dell, whose share for the year decreased from 16.5% to 13.9%.

Companies Acer and Asus, following the top three, by contrast, outstripped the market in terms of sales growth. Thus, Acer increased sales by 89.7%, as a result of which its share increased from 6.4% to 8.5%. Asus increased sales by 49.9%, which led to an increase in its share from 7.0% to 7.3%.

Rumors attribute the PlayStation 5 Pro to the ability to

Rumors about the PlayStation 5 Pro console appeared even before the release of the current version. Given the situation with the PS4, it is reasonable to expect a new model a few years after the start of sales of the regular PS5. And now some details have appeared on the Web.

Rumors attribute the PlayStation 5 Pro to the ability to deliver 240 fps in games. But without ray tracing and not in 4K

The source says that the new set-top box will have a GPU with a performance of 14-16 TFLOPS. To recap, the current PS5 has 10.28 TFLOPS. One could say that the Xbox Series X already offers 12.1 TFLOPS, but still there is no point in directly comparing it here – you need to pay attention to the increase within the same line.

PS5 Pro is also credited with 18-20 GB of memory versus the current 16 GB. It is possible that the memory will become faster.

But more the source concentrates not on parameters, but on performance targets. Allegedly, the main task of the updated set-top box is to deliver 60 fps in 4K resolution at maximum quality settings for ray tracing effects. At medium settings, performance should rise to 120 fps at 1440-1800p, and without ray tracing, the console will supposedly be able to deliver 240 fps at 1080-1440p. True, why 240 fps for the average gamer is completely unclear.

So far, these data should be considered as rumors, but still the first of the above goals looks more than logical. True, it is not clear whether a 40-60% increase in GPU performance will be enough to achieve it.

It looks like Apple’s mixed reality headset is indeed in its final stages of development.

Apple has a brand new product almost ready. The company first showed a mixed reality headset to the board of directors

The source claims that last week Apple demonstrated the device to the Board of Directors for the first time.

Initially, Apple allegedly planned to announce at WWDC 2022, but technical problems, including overheating, forced the company to change plans. At the same time, Apple recently accelerated the development of the RealityOS operating system, on the basis of which the headset will work.

Apple is now expected to introduce the device either in the fall along with the iPhone 14 or as early as early 2023. Given that the company’s smartwatches were introduced in 2014 and AirPods were shown in 2016, this will be Apple’s first brand new product in years.

There are not so many details about the device on the Web, and even those sometimes vary greatly. For example, the headset is credited with 15 cameras required for gesture tracking, micro-OLED screens, a gaze tracking system, and a price in excess of $2,000.
