Router Livebox does not work for you, what to do? Solutions and tricks

We must bear in mind that Orange has multiple Livebox routers different so the steps may vary slightly from one to another, but in all of them we can fix common errors: monitor connected devices, restart, restart… The first thing we need to know is which router we have or which ones there are. Orange has a help website where we can see all the devices it installs or has installed, so we simply have to look at which one is ours, which one it “looks like” or look at the sticker with the technical specifications or its box.

Currently we will generally find two types (which are actually four) and they are the Livebox Fibra and Livebox+ routers and the Livebox 6 and 6+ routers. The difference between “+” models and those that do not reside in the ONT: the only difference between the two is that the “+” model does not have the integrated ONT and needs to connect to an external ONT. Currently Orange will install Livebox 6 in any of its two models if we contract the maximum speed, but it is likely that we have some old device so it is convenient that you look carefully before fixing errors.

Lights, ports and buttons

Before solving the different problems we must be clear about what each thing is, what lights are there? What buttons are on the back? This will vary depending on the device installed and the manufacturer (Sagemcom or Arcadyan, for example) but they all have the same lights: power on, Internet connection, Wi-Fi connection…

In the fiber Livebox we find:

  • Power. It should be solid green because the router is on
  • Fiber. In red, there is no signal. Blinking orange, it indicates that the fiber is correctly connected but that it is waiting for Internet password validation. If it’s solid green (as it should) it’s working.
  • internet light: Steady green is connected and off waiting for IP address.
  • Telephone. Off, solid green (available) or flashing if there is a call in progress on the landline, if one is off hook or there is an incoming call.
  • LAN or local network. If it is off, there is no data traffic on the local network, either wired or WiFi. If it is blinking green, there is traffic.
  • WiFi light: Steady green means it’s on, blinking green means WPS pairing is active. If it is solid blue, you have activated the guest network and if it is blinking blue, it is temporary remote administration.
  • Update: Flashing blue will indicate that it is updating.

  • Internet in white or green. Fast flashing white is that the fiber is not connected, slow flashing is that the password is correct but there is no Internet conection and solid white light indicates that the password has not been entered or is incorrect, although the fiber is connected.
  • Wifi. If it is off, the Wi-Fi network is disabled. Steady green indicates WiFi network activated and flashing green can be slow or fast. If it is fast it indicates WPS pairing in progress and if it is slow it indicates that temporary remote management is activated. If it is solid white it is because of the guest network.
  • Ethernet ports. They can be yellow and green. Both off indicate that the port is not connected. Solid yellow indicates 100 Mbps connection and flashing yellow 100 Mbps connection with data traffic. If the light is solid green, it indicates a connection at 1 Gbps and if it is intermittent, the same, but because there is data traffic at that moment in which we are going to consult it.

Livebox 6

Access settings

The first thing we have to know about the Orange Livebox router It is how to access its configuration if we want to change something in the settings. This is similar in both so the steps will not change regardless of the one you have at home. From here we can modify the access password to the device or we can change the WiFi network password, manage the connected devices or activate the parental control functions, for example.

Once it’s plugged in, we need to go to the browser and type 192.168.1.1 which will be the assigned IP address, although it can also work if we write http://liveboxfibra O well http://liveboxplus. In any case, we will access its settings.

Once here, a menu will appear that asks for a username and password. The user is admin in Orange by default and the password we can find it in the Livebox router. By default it is the same one that you have assigned to the WiFi if you have not changed it and it is on the sticker that the device has on its back. When you have it written, we can go into the settings and see all the options.

From here we can change the password, see the connected devices, restart or format or solve possible errors that we will see next.

Solve common problems

How the main problems that we usually have in the Livebox router are solved, how we can connect to the Internet or how we can improve the connection speed.

I can’t access the internet

The first that we must see if the router does not work or you can’t access the Internet is how the lights on the device are. It is the first thing they will ask you when you call Orange technical service. And from the orange operator help website they also explain what it means when the Internet indicator status light is green, flashing white, etc.

The first thing we should check is that we are correctly connected to the router. If you are connected with a cable and the light is green, check that the cable is connected correctly and check the network settings of your computer. Instead, if you are connected via Wi-Fi and the Internet light is green, we must also look at the wireless connection indicator… If the WiFi icon is not solid green, press the button for a second and check that it turns on.

In the event that the router’s Internet light is flashing white, we should check the fiber cable: make sure it is properly inserted into the Livebox and turn the router off and on to see if it stops failing. Also if it is flashing white we must take into account that you must configure the Internet or ONT key in the Livebox following the steps that we will find in the Orange guide. If you have the Livebox 6+ model and the light is white, make sure that the ONT Ethernet cable is correctly connected to the port.

If the Internet is slow, we must do a speed test through the Internet to check if the problem is in a single device or in all. Try to connect by cable in case it is the wireless network that slows down your connection. If not, one of the solutions provided by the operator’s technical service is that you access the router configuration and the channel section. Automatically your device will search for the least saturated and fastest channel but this may not always work or may not be right and we can do it manually.

Orange

We can access the Livebox 6 router by following the steps above (or any older model) and tap on the “Wi-Fi” tab at the top, as you can see in the screenshot below. Here, we have to scroll until we find the “channel” section. You will see that there is a dropdown with several options although generally we will have it marked as automatic. You will also find a button that allows us to scan and that will look for the best option at that moment. Tap on that button to find the one that offers the most speed at that moment. Keep in mind that you can lose connection for a few minutes just when you touch the button.

Furthermore, if have you contacted customer service or technical service by phone, it is likely that they will indicate a specific channel to avoid saturation, improve speed and solve one of the most common problems.

Factory reset

There are cases in which we must reset the Livebox router and they will tell us so if we contact the technical service, for example. If nothing that has been explained to us does not work or if we have tried all the tricks. But also in case you have forgotten the personalized password and want to go back to the one with the operator sticker. In that case, we can restore factory values. You must bear in mind that it is not the same as turning off and on because in this process all the settings and configuration values ​​such as port assignment, WiFi settings, passwords, firewall rulesyes

The first thing we must do is go to the device and look for a small hole in the back that has a drawing of “Reset” along with a danger icon. You will see that you can introduce a sharp object. Stick something thin into the hole for five seconds straight and the lights will go on and off after a few minutes.

Use your username and password to access the router from the browser and go to the “Information and diagnosis” tab at the top.
