Renault MeganE electric car will receive a Qualcomm processor

Published

on

Qualcomm today announced that it will supply the key computing processor for the digital instrument cluster in Renault’s new electric vehicle.

Qualcomm, headquartered in San Diego, California, the world’s largest supplier of essential semiconductors for mobile phones, is expanding its range of automotive chips with processors that can simultaneously power dashboards and infotainment systems. Earlier this year, the company announced a deal with General Motors Co to use Qualcomm chips.

Qualcomm has clarified that Renault’s Megane E-TECH Electric will also use Qualcomm chips for the vehicle’s infotainment system, which will host software from Google, Qualcomm’s longtime partner in the Android phone market.

The Megane E-TECH Electric, which is expected to be unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich this month, will go on sale next year.

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, which is also called MeganE in the company, is built on the proprietary CMF-EV platform. It is equipped with a 160 kW (217 hp) electric motor and a 60 kW • h battery, which will cover a distance of up to 450 km using the WLTP protocol.

In less than a year, the situation on the video cards and processors market may improve. The head of AMD spoke about the shortage of chips

AMD CEO Lisa Su expressed her opinion on the duration of the chip shortage. According to her statement, in the first half of 2022, the supply is likely to still be limited.

But already in the second half of next year, the shortage of microcircuits will not be as acute as it is now. How much the situation will change, the head of AMD did not predict, but her vision is still better than that of a number of other specialists who predict improvement only in 2023.

It should be understood that AMD itself does not produce semiconductors, so we are talking about improving the situation in general, which will affect not only AMD, but all other companies as well.

In general, so far most forecasts agree that the situation with the deficit will improve at least in the second half of 2022 or at the beginning of 2023, but no one undertakes to predict when the situation will completely return to normal.
