Purple vertical lines: MacBook Pro screens failing due to dust
According to repair specialists, a new display malfunction, dubbed “Dustgate,” has become a real problem for several MacBook Pro models. Forbes reported on the situation.
When the MacBook’s lid is opened at a certain angle, purple vertical lines appear on the screen. According to Stefan Steins from the NotebookNerds workshop, the problem is quite common and repairers receive several of these devices every week.
Apparently, the problem is related to the flexible cable that connects the display to the main body of the laptop. There is a gap at the hinge between the screen and the keyboard where dust and dirt can collect. The debris then gets caught on the cable and damages it over time as the cover is opened and closed.
Repairing such damage can be difficult and costly. Ricky Panesar from iCorrect said:
The difficulty is that the damaged cables are connected on the back of the screen itself. To repair, we will have to detach the screen from the cover without breaking it, and solder new flexible cables. There is a high risk of breakage.
It’s easier to simply completely replace the display, which is what Apple itself usually does in the event of such a malfunction. This could cost customers more than $625 if they don’t have Apple Care’s extended warranty.
The problem affects several versions of Apple laptops – with model numbers A1989, A2251, A2289, A2338 and A2141, with the latter suffering the most. These models were released between 2018 and 2020. Experts say MacBook Pro models released between 2016 and 2020 have a similar design and may be affected by this issue.

This is what laptops with new Intel Core Ultra processors look like. New products from Dell and Alienware appeared on the Internet

Promotional materials have appeared on the Internet with photos of Dell and Alienware laptops, and some of them will be equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors.
The images show the XPS 13, 14, 16, as well as the Alienware m16 R2 and m18 R2.
All new products will receive a 14th generation Intel Core CPU, but we know that this same 14th generation will include both Raptor Lake Refresh and the latest Meteor Lake. But only the latter will bear the names Core Ultra.
Also, some laptops will have discrete graphics cards of the GeForce RTX 40 line. There are no other technical details yet, but these are all fairly high-end laptops.
They should be announced at CES 2024, like many other laptops based on the new Intel processors.

The latest Apple MacBook Pro 14 with M3 Pro offers the best speakers and best screen on the market. DxOMark thinks so

DxOMark experts named the sound system of the Apple MacBook Pro 14″ (M3 Pro, 2023) the best among those tested.
The authors of the source test not only smartphones, but also laptops, although much less frequently. In this case, the latest version of the 14-inch MacBook Pro, equipped with the M3 Pro SoC, turns out to have better speakers and at the same time a better screen. In total, for these indicators (the source calls it Music & Video), the laptop received 154 points, while the same MacBook on the M2 Pro at one time earned 149 points.
At the same time, interestingly, the quality of video calls in the old model is slightly better: 144 points versus 142. But the final result of 148 points still puts the new product in the lead, although the difference with the previous version is only 1 point.
If you look at the entire rating, the first few places are occupied exclusively by Apple laptops.
