“PlayStation VR2 controllers could be the best of this generation.” Developer Polyarc shared his impressions of the headset

The PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset is just getting ready to enter the market. However, some developers already have access to the device, so we can learn some details.

PlayStation VR2 controllers could be the best of this generation

One of the employees of the Polyarc studio, who holds the position of Principal Engineer, decided to share his impressions of the headset controllers.

I’m so impressed with the new PS VR2 controllers because we finally have a set of high quality VR controllers. I think they have the potential to be the best of this generation for several reasons.

We needed to develop a game that would work with one DualShock 4 or two PlayStation Moves. So now we have two correct hands, what can you do with them? Their tracking ring design turned out to be very interesting. You will notice that these elements are directed more towards the back of the hand, and one interesting implication of this is that it means that it will be easier for you if you need to have two-handed interaction when they are close together. You can do this because the tracking rings won’t collide with each other. So, that’s pretty cool! You can get high fidelity interactions

The developer also praised Sony’s decision to add foveal rendering and eye tracking to the PS VR2 as it would greatly improve system performance.

It turns out that the human eye has a narrow field of view. The field of view is where you focus your attention, and you can really put a lot – most – of the detail in there and then have lower resolution outside of that area. So we’re actually wasting a lot of effort rendering without eye tracking and placing details where there really shouldn’t be that much. But when it’s working properly, you won’t notice it, because when it’s all out of your peripheral vision, you won’t realize it’s lower resolution.

It made sense for Sony to use this on the console because, you know, you only have this hardware, which I hope will be around for quite some time. And in order to squeeze as much life out of it as possible, you need to be able to optimize where you can.

Sales of Xbox and Microsoft games sank The company reported

Microsoft has published a report on the results of the second quarter of fiscal year 2023.

Sales of Xbox and Microsoft games sank. The company reported for the next financial quarter

The company’s revenue rose 2% to $52.7 billion, while net income fell 12% to $16.4 billion.

This is far from Microsoft’s best quarter. These results are due to several reasons. First, there is a decline in revenue from manufacturers of laptops with Windows and PC sales in the market as a whole. Secondly, sales of Microsoft devices sank by a considerable 39%.

Also not the best way to feel in the last quarter and the gaming division of the company. In general, the Xbox division was marked by a decrease in revenue. Game sales fell by 13%, hardware sales fell by the same amount, that is, primarily consoles, and revenue from services and services decreased by 12%.

At the same time, Microsoft notes the further growth of the Game Pass service, but, as always, does not name the number of users and revenue.
