Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition has been tested and compared on modern Microsoft and Sony consoles and PCs.
Recall that we are talking about a special version of Metro Exodus, which has received new effects with ray tracing and works only on platforms that support this technology.
In this case, we used a PC with a GeForce RTX 3080 at an active 4K resolution.
As you can see, there is a difference in the quality of the picture, and the point is not at all tracing. Even without looking closely, you can easily notice that the texture resolution on the Xbox Series S is much lower. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it is almost identical, but still with a slight margin towards the second. The PC in this matter is unattainable, and the difference with the younger version of the Xbox is already huge. At the same time, DLSS technology was activated for the PC, which many scold for a fuzzy picture and all sorts of artifacts, but, as you can see, everything is fine. At the same time, all three consoles give out a stable 60 fps, which is explained by different resolutions.
Of course, as almost always, the top-end PC is ahead of the consoles in terms of picture quality, but it should be understood that for the $ 500 that is asked for the Xbox Seires X and PlayStation 5, you cannot build a PC that will provide a picture at the RTX 3080 level, since one such the video card costs more than any console (based on the recommended prices). The Xbox Series S, at $ 300, has no PC alternatives at all.
MSI declassifies the performance of the Arc A380 graphics card from its M301 Dragon Shield computer
MSI has unveiled the gaming performance figures for the Intel Arc A380 graphics card that will be installed in its new M301 Dragon Shield PC. This data was leaked from promotional materials that mentioned several esports games. All of them use medium or low graphics quality settings.
In Naraka: Bladepoint, the card produces about 85 frames per second, in League of Legends – more than 200 frames per second, in PUBG – more than 94 frames per second, and in Overwatch – more than 100. This is approximately the level of Arc A370M mobile graphics cards.
Note that MSI is preparing two versions of desktop PCs with Intel graphics cards – a model with a Core i5 12400F processor and a regular Arc A380 graphics accelerator, as well as a version with a Core i7 12700KF processor and an overclocked version of a 6 GB graphics card.
It is not yet reported when the new desktop video cards will enter the global market. At the moment, they are offered only in China and only as part of finished PC assemblies. But laptops with Arc A370M cards have already appeared in the US.
Almost like a full-fledged computer: iPadOS 16 will allow you to connect external PCI, USB and audio devices to iPad based on Apple’s own processors
Last week, Apple held its annual WWDC conference, where it talked about future versions of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and macOS. Now it has become known that the new iPadOS 16 will support the DriverKit API, which will allow device manufacturers to create more accessories for tablets.
DriverKit API is a framework originally created for Mac computers in 2019. It allows you to write custom drivers for the iPad and make your products compatible with the tablet. Currently, this framework supports USB, PCI and audio devices, and the drivers can be easily transferred from macOS. In the future, drivers can be distributed through the App Store. So far, this only works with devices based on Apple’s own processors (for example, M1), that is, in terms of tablets, everything is limited to the iPad Pro 2021 and iPad Air 2022 models.
iPadOS 16 will arrive as a public beta in July. The release assembly will be released this fall.
In addition, iPadOS is expected to support the Metal 3 graphics framework, which will allow you to run “heavy” games on tablets, such as No Man’s Sky.
You don’t even need to boot up your computer to play. Doom launched in the BIOS of the motherboard
Coreboot is a non-commercial project for a unified BIOS that can be installed on different motherboards instead of the original system from a specific manufacturer. Coreboot performs all the initialization functions of the hardware, like a regular BIOS, but after that it can run the so-called “payload” – a term taken from the space sphere. In version Coreboot 4.17, Doom, the original shooter from 1993, became such a “payload”.
On which systems Doom has not been launched, but now you can use the BIOS for this. More precisely, Coreboot. However, you will have to put up with some limitations: coreDOOM (the Coreboot version of the game) only supports a keyboard connected to a PS/2 connector. It is impossible to save in the game, the soundtrack is also missing. And after exiting the game, everything freezes tightly. But after all, Windows often hangs in games. True, these are completely different games.
