Researchers at Boston University have created a new strain of COVID-19 with a high lethality rate of about 80%. To do this, they combined the original strain, which first infected a person in Wuhan province, and the spike protein of the Omicron virus.
The result was a virus called “Omicron S” that killed 80% of the experimental mice in the experiment. As it turned out, “Omicron S” produces 5 times more viral particles than the original version.
A number of scientists have already raised concerns and criticized this study. Many have said that oversight of this kind of experiment needs to be strengthened to avoid a pandemic in the future. According to them, it is necessary to carefully evaluate the risks of such experiments and the possible benefits from them. Indeed, now more than 40 new biochemical laboratories are being built around the world that work with dangerous viruses. They are mainly located in Asia.
The research itself was carried out in a special room, which is isolated from the external environment. However, according to many accountants, this may not be enough, since the laboratory in Wuhan province also adhered to the standards, however, as practice has shown, this was not enough.
