Phone with retractable display LG Rollable spotted in the database of operators of South Korea

2020 has become the year of 5G, 5G phones have moved beyond flagship models into the affordable mid-range segment. In addition, most of the processors released this year have integrated 5G modems. However, foldable phones have not received the same level of adoption, mainly due to the fact that they are still expensive and short-lived. However, manufacturers are moving to another foldable form factor – rollable displays.
OPPO recently unveiled the X 2021, the world’s first concept phone with a retractable display. The company even released a demo video on how the device works. It was later revealed that the display was made by the Chinese display manufacturer BOE and that in testing it was able to withstand 100,000 fold-unfold cycles. And TCL presented a video showing the work of its prototype.
It looks like there will be more retractable smartphones coming in 2021. The LG Rollable smartphone has been added to the database of the South Korean telecom operator. According to tipster @Cozyplanes, the device is currently registered in the internal database of the Korean operator. The device model is LM-RN910N (OMD-LM-R910N).

Earlier rumors credit the LG Rollable with a 7.4-inch retractable screen with 2428 x 1080 pixels (20: 9) resolution, 2428 x 1366 pixels (16: 9) video mode and 2428 x 1600 pixels (3: 2) performance mode.
The LG Rollable is also rumored to be powered by a 4,200mAh battery and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor paired with 16GB of RAM. So it will be an expensive phone.
@Cozyplanes also revealed details on how the device works. The device will expand on both sides, increasing the screen size to 100%. LG will add a flexible bezel that won’t expand, but will lock in the screen’s position like a clip. It will fix the smartphone in its open state, and when exposed to it, it will unlock the screen and allow it to collapse. The phone will also have a locking device to prevent accidental opening and to prevent the screen from sliding out too quickly, which can lead to creases on the screen.
LG isn’t the only company developing a slide-out mobile phone. Samsung and TCL join OPPO and LG on the list of OEMs that have filed patents for slide-out smartphones. As such, we will surely see a few more designs from other companies soon.
