The PS5018-E18 (E18) controller has been announced for several months now, and most of its features are revealed here. This PCIe Gen 4×4 NVMe SSD controller claims to be the most powerful solution in the industry. According to published tests, the maximum sequential read and write speeds are 7.4 GB / s and 7 GB / s, respectively.
In addition to the features of the controller, the first drives where this solution will be used have already been announced. In particular, Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus PCIe 4.0 NVMe wants to become the first and fastest drive (details here), but Galax HOF Extreme threatens to challenge his achievement (details here).
The main competitor to PS5018-E18 (E18) may be Silicon Motion SM2264, which offers sequential read and write speeds of 7.4 GB / s and 6.8 GB / s.
High-speed solid state drives with third-party controllers are already on the market. In particular, we can mention the Samsung 980 PRO with read speeds up to 7 GB / s.
The advantage of the PS5018-E18 (E18) controller in this case is support for drives with capacities up to a fantastic 8TB. In other words, this solution allows you to create the fastest SSDs with the most disk space in its format.
