PC sales for the year increased by 55.2%
IDC analysts have prepared the results of the first quarter of 2021 in the “traditional PC” market, which IDC includes desktop and mobile personal computers and workstations. According to analysts’ estimates, 84 million systems of the designated categories were shipped in the quarter. This is 55.2% more than from January to April 2020.
In comparison with the previous quarter, supplies decreased. This is a seasonal decline, but this time it is unusually weak at only 8%. For comparison, the last time the market contracted by about the same extent was in 2012, when the consecutive decline was 7.5%.
Analysts attribute the growth in sales to high demand for computers for gaming, teleworking and learning.
The market leader is Lenovo. It owns 24.3% of the market. A year ago, Lenovo’s share was 23.7%. The second place is taken by HP, whose share increased over the year from 21.7% to 22.9%. Dell is in third place. Its share for the year decreased from 19.4% to 15.4%. This is followed by Apple, and Acer Group closes the top five. Apple’s share for the year increased from 5.8% to 8.0%, Acer’s share – from 6.2% to 7.0%.

Finally, the front camera in the iPhone will become the flagship. The camera module in the iPhone 14 will be three times more expensive than in the current generation

One of the main innovations of the iPhone 14 line of smartphones, according to numerous leaks, should be the absence of the usual bang cutout in older models. Instead, they will get the holes in the display that are familiar to the market. And it seems that this will be accompanied at the same time by a tangible improvement in the front camera.
The source reports that Apple has decided to change the supplier of the front camera module. Cameras for new Apple smartphones will be supplied by LG Innotek. Initially, Apple was going to use the company’s products in the iPhone 15 line, but decided to implement it earlier. The manufacturer itself in this case tells us little, but the source notes that the front camera module in new smartphones will be about three times more expensive than those that Apple used previously. Probably, this should have a positive effect on image quality. At least the camera is credited with autofocus.

You can turn off “Recommendations” in mobile Chrome

Google is preparing to introduce an innovation that will delight many users of the mobile version of the proprietary Chrome browser.
We are talking about the ability to remove the Discover ribbon (Recommendations) from the Chrome New Tab page. On mobile versions of the Google Chrome browser, the new tab page currently hosts a search bar, most viewed websites, and two content feeds. One of them is the traditional Google Discover channel (Google Recommendations), which shows a list of articles recommended for the user by Google algorithms.
Soon, the browser should be able to remove this feed – using a special flag #feed-ablation, which will appear on the chrome://flags page. It’s already available in an early test build of Chrome Canary, and is expected to be released with the release of stable Chrome 103 next month.
