PC market grew by 13.2% over the year, desktop systems outpaced laptops in terms of growth

Experts of the analytical company IDC have summed up the results of the second quarter in the market of “traditional PCs” and published the corresponding report. They estimate that 83.6 million desktops, laptops and workstations were shipped worldwide in the three months from April to June. This is 13.2% more than in the second quarter of 2020. Analysts point out that the supply volume was limited by the lack of components. To a greater extent, the shortage affected laptops, so they gave way to desktop PCs in terms of growth.

Lenovo is named the market leader. Having shipped 20.005 million computers, which is 14.9% more than in the second quarter of last year, when 17.407 million computers were shipped, it was able to increase its share from 23.6% to 23.9%.

Second place belongs to HP. She also increased supplies, but only by 2.7% – from 18.104 to 18.596 million units. It is easy to understand that the result was a decrease in the share from 24.5% to 22.2%.

Dell ranks third. This manufacturer increased supplies by 16.4%, as a result of which its share increased from 16.3% to 16.7%.

The top five are closed by Apple and Acer Group, but, so to speak, they are moving in opposite directions. If Acer Group managed to increase shipments by 17.6% over the year, which led to an increase in its share from 7.0% to 7.3%, then Apple increased shipments by only 9.4%. This figure is less than the general market, so Apple’s share decreased from 7.6% to 7.4%.
