Owners of Chevrolet Bolt EVs built between 2017 and 2019 should not park them indoors or leave them unattended to charge overnight. This is stated in the “safety warning” issued by the US National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA). The warning came after two Bolt electric vehicles, included by the manufacturer in a 2020 recall, caught fire. One fire broke out earlier this month outside the Vermont legislator’s home and another in New Jersey.
The automaker assures that safety is “the highest priority” for it, and it is trying to “solve the problem as soon as possible.” According to NHTSA, batteries in the above vehicles can spontaneously start to smoke and catch fire.
GM recalled more than 68,000 Bolt electric vehicles last year. It released a software update for these machines that limited battery charging to 90% of full capacity. In addition, the company has pledged to install diagnostic software on these machines to prevent fires and replace batteries in which any “abnormalities” are found.
Bolt electric vehicles, which are prone to spontaneous combustion, use batteries manufactured by LG Chem.
BMW new generation. Named the timing of the release of an SUV on hydrogen fuel cells
BMW will begin mass production and sale of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles developed jointly with Toyota Motor as early as 2025. Head of Sales Peter Nota underlined the German automaker’s commitment to producing greener vehicles against the backdrop of increasingly stringent environmental regulations in Europe.
BMW unveiled the hydrogen fuel cell iX5 Hydrogen concept car at the German International Motor Show in September 2021. The iX5 is based on the BMW X5 SUV. The company previously announced that small-scale production of the SUV would begin before the end of 2022.
An FCV can be refueled in three to four minutes – much faster than a battery electric vehicle. While BMW hasn’t revealed the iX5 lineup, the model is equipped with two 6kg tanks to enable long-distance travel.
BMW will also accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. The company is currently aiming for 50% of new sales across the group, including the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands, to be electric vehicles by 2030. Electric vehicles make up a bigger share of sales than expected, so it’s possible the company will reach 50% one to two years ahead of schedule.
We also continue to invest in internal combustion engines. We believe in the importance of different technologies – battery electric vehicles as well as hydrogen and efficient internal combustion engines – because we don’t want to put all of our investments in one area.
A promising $120,000 Interstellar electric SUV has been photographed in China. They promise cross-country ability no worse than that of Cybertruck
Photo spies filmed a camouflaged SUV on the roads of China. According to the source, these photos show a promising electric car of the new Interstellar brand, behind which stands the industry leader, BYD. It will be a very expensive car with outstanding off-road potential.
There are not as many details about the project as we would like, but it is reported that the car will receive motor-wheels and a fully controlled chassis (4WS) – both the front and rear wheels will turn. The cross-country ability will be no worse than that of some Cybertruck, high power and very good dynamics are also promised. It is expected that the car will receive the Huawei platform, on the basis of which the functions of the autonomous driving system will work (two lidars are attributed at once).
The premiere of the new Interstellar brand may take place as early as August, and the first car (the one in the photo, but already in commercial form) in the fourth quarter of this year. Sales of new items should start in the first half of 2023. The price of an SUV is also called – from 120 to almost 240 thousand dollars.
Tesla Semi with a range of 800 km will be released this year, Cybertruck with the same range – next
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced today that the company will begin deliveries of its Semi electric truck with a range of about 800 km this year, with a Cybertruck with the same range coming in 2023.
At the time of the announcement of the Tesla Semi in 2017, the automaker said that production versions of the 36-ton electric truck would have a range of about 480 and 800 km at a price of $150,000 and $180,000, respectively. The truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 20 seconds, even with a huge load. Pre-orders began to be accepted in May of this year with a deposit of $20,000.
As for the Cybertruck, Musk recently acknowledged that the company would not be able to sell a vehicle with the features and price it announced in 2019, when the pickup truck was introduced.
