Oppo Unveils Oppo AR Glass 2021 – Introduction, Features and User Interface (Video)

Oppo hosted the 2020 Future Technology Conference (Oppo Inno Day 2020) in Shenzhen. In addition to the smartphone with a retractable screen, Oppo has officially unveiled the second version of the augmented reality glasses – Oppo AR Glass 2021.

Compared to its predecessor, Oppo AR Glass 2021 features improved wearability, a new optical solution and interaction method, and a more sophisticated content ecosystem. Oppo AR Glass 2021 has a new design, they are compact and light, almost 75 percent lighter than their predecessor, so the glasses will not feel heavy even with prolonged wear.

Oppo AR Glass 2021 also connects to the Find X2 Pro with a CC cable and uses the Snapdragon 865 to boost CPU and GPU performance by over 40 percent. In addition, the Oppo AR Glass 2021 features Birdbath optics that deliver 53 percent better contrast, 98 percent better brightness uniformity and 40 percent more pixels per degree over the previous generation.

According to reports, Oppo AR Glass 2021 refracts light from a 0.71-inch ultra-clear OLED panel, which is equivalent to a 90-inch screen at 3 meters. Customizable high-amplitude speakers with a semi-open rear cavity are also integrated for a unique acoustical design that creates a home theater experience.

In terms of interaction, Oppo AR Glass 2021 supports mobile phone interaction, gesture interaction and spatial positioning, voice interaction and other control functions.

Key Features of Oppo AR Glass 2021:

  • Mobile Phone Interaction – Users can use the point on the mobile phone screen and touch gestures to control the AR Glass app.
  • Gesture Interaction – Oppo AR Glass 2021 features a suite of binocular fisheye cameras that can detect and track both hands in milliseconds. In the simulation, 21 key points are marked on one hand and 4 joint markers on one finger to accurately recognize gestures, the details of the slightest movement of the joints can also be captured with glasses. Users can interact using gestures such as touching menus, nudging and pulling objects.
  • Spatial Positioning – Oppo AR Glass 2021 is equipped with a ToF lens, binocular camera and IMU to form a spatial positioning system and achieve positioning accuracy down to centimeter and 1 °. The ToF lens is designed for environmental scanning and aircraft detection to ensure the 6DoF position is correct and stable. User space is continuous – the binocular fisheye camera scans the environment and builds local maps in real time, and performs 3D spatial positioning calculations with millimeter precision.
  • Voice Interaction – OPPO said it will continue to explore AR voice interaction based on Breeno in the future.

In terms of user-level AR app scenarios, Oppo AR Glass 2021 supports watching AR movies, AR games, home AR, and AR shooting. In the iQiyi AR app, users can watch online and local HD video anytime, anywhere, play multiplayer MOBAs and tower defense games, take part in online battles with friends, and arrange furniture in the Jingdong AR Home app to choose the most suitable furniture before purchasing. In addition, the built-in Oppo AR Glass 2021 RGB camera can capture virtual and real images at the same time, enhancing the enjoyment of the AR experience.

Ten augmented reality games for Android and iOS are examples of popular AR games.

OPPO AR Developer Program will officially launch in 2021, including developer recruitment, developer salon and developer support programs, developers will create user-level cross-platform AR applications.
