OPPO Patented a Smartphone with a Removable Camera Module
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has filed a patent for a removable camera module on a smartphone that connects to it via USB-C or wirelessly. Patent published in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
In the back of the smartphone there is a recess for the camera module. This module, if necessary, can be removed and connected using USB-C to the device – this will allow you to take a selfie on the main camera, while seeing the screen. In addition, the module can be equipped in different variations with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth controllers and an NFC chip – this will allow using it at a distance from the smartphone, as well as connecting with other devices.
The patent states that the removable module contains two cameras and a lithium-ion battery that powers the module. It is not yet known how this will be implemented, and whether a smartphone from Oppo will come out with a similar technological solution. However, in theory, the company’s devices could enable users to change the camera module of their smartphones without replacing the entire device – for example, in the event of a breakdown or for upgrading. In this case, the company can start selling camera modules separately, and users will simply need to install a new unit.
In November, Oppo introduced the X 2021 smartphone with a stretchable screen – its diagonal can increase from 6.7 inches to 7.4 inches when the window is opened. As in the case of the removable camera module, it is not known whether the smartphone will go on sale – the company said that this is just a prototype.

Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphones are unlikely to receive a sub-screen front camera

Samsung is not considering adding under-screen front cameras to the Galaxy S23 line of smartphones. They were not in the Galaxy S22 either. This is stated on the Korean site Naver. A user under the pseudonym Ianzuk, citing sources in the supply chain, claims that Samsung does not have much confidence in the quality of this technology.
The source believes that the under-screen cameras do not yet match the quality of conventional front cameras. ZTE and Xiaomi also had similar problems. They also experimented with under-screen solutions, but failed to solve all the problems.
Even with the $1,799 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, the quality of selfie shots was lower than with a regular camera. Therefore, according to the source, Samsung will not release a premium line with such cameras.
It was previously reported that the front cameras in the Galaxy S23 will receive more powerful image sensors with a resolution of 12 megapixels. And these smartphones are credited with the main camera with a resolution of 200 megapixels.

If we copy, then only the best. Gionee P50 Pro unveiled for $100, which looks like Huawei P50 Pro and iPhone 13 at the same time

Today we already wrote about the start of sales in China of the LeTV Y1 Pro smartphone, which is trying to resemble the iPhone 12, and now the Gionee P50 Pro has gone on sale in China, and the name itself contains a clue which model served as a source of inspiration for the creators of this model.
Indeed, the Gionee P50 Pro is desperately trying to be similar to the Huawei P50 Pro – a striking similarity can be seen in the design of the main camera. It is interesting that, at the same time, in the main camera of Gionee there is only one sensor – 13-megapixel. The remaining modules, it turns out, are props.
Well, on the iPhone 13, the novelty is similar from the face – a screen cutout. Although, in order to accommodate a single module with a 5-megapixel sensor, a waterdrop notch would be enough. But then he would be a smartphone like everyone else, and not the most current iPhone.
However, all jokes aside, the Gionee P50 Pro for its price (the cost of the basic version is only $100) is well equipped. There are stereo speakers, a USB-C port, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a standard headphone jack. The Gionee device has a platform in common with the LeTV Y1 Pro: both are built on the 12nm SoC Unisoc Tiger T310 (in its configuration, we recall, one Arm Cortex-A75 core with a frequency of 2.0 GHz and three Arm Cortex-A55 with a frequency of 1, 8 GHz). The screen is characterized by a diagonal of 6.51 inches and a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels.
The battery capacity was 3900 mAh, it supports 10 W charging. Device dimensions – 165 x 77.3 x 8.9 mm, weight – 211 grams.
Gionee P50 Pro is presented in three configurations. The base with 4 GB of RAM and 54 GB of flash memory is priced at the same $ 100. The cost of the 4/128 GB and 6/128 GB versions is $110 and $115, respectively.
