Oppo and OnePlus kicked out of the German market: they blame Nokia

Published

on

Oppo and OnePlus, owned by BBK, were forced to stop sales in Germany. The fact is that Nokia owns some important 5G patents, and Oppo and OnePlus use these technologies without paying license fees.

WinFuture reports that Finnish telecommunications company Nokia (not to be confused with HMD Global, which sells Nokia-branded phones) has won two patent lawsuits against Oppo and OnePlus. The Mannheim District Court found that Oppo did indeed use proprietary technology for its 5G phones, and because they were not licensed, the phones in question were sold illegally. This also applies to OnePlus, which is owned by the same parent company. The smartphones of these companies have a lot in common.

Back in 2018, Oppo agreed to pay patent fees to Nokia, but that contract expired and subsequent negotiations broke down. Oppo tried to appeal this decision, but was unsuccessful.

As of now, Oppo and OnePlus have stopped selling the devices in Germany and there are no more phones on their respective websites. OnePlus and Oppo are not big players in Germany with less than 5% of the market, so this shouldn’t be a big blow to the companies in terms of sales.

However, the companies decided to shift the blame to Nokia. OnePlus communications director Spencer Blank confirmed that sales in Germany had been halted and accused Nokia of demanding unreasonably high commissions.

We are actively working with the relevant parties to resolve the current legal issue. Although sales and marketing of related products have been suspended, OnePlus remains committed to the German market and will continue to operate. Meanwhile, OnePlus users in Germany can continue to enjoy our products and related services, such as regular software updates and our after-sales service, as before.”

Oppo took a similar stance and accused Nokia of “unreasonably high contract renewal fees” for patents.

This week, high-quality renders of the promising Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 + were leaked to the Web, and now the source has published high-quality images of a much simpler and cheaper model – the Galaxy A14. At the same time, some technical characteristics are also given.

Perhaps the most interesting thing here is the execution of the main camera with “island” (as if separate) modules. The Galaxy S23/S23+ should get the same external camera. But there will be no embedded camera on the screen: the Galaxy A14 will receive an Infinity-U display with a drop-shaped front camera. But the screen itself will become larger – the diagonal will be 6.8 inches.

Galaxy A14 dimensions will be 167.7 x 78.7 x 9.3 mm. The phone is credited with an almost flat side frame, a side fingerprint scanner, a USB-C port. There will also be a standard headphone jack.

Steve Hemmerstoffer, known on Twitter as Onleaks, is behind the leak of these images. He previously published renders of Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21, Sony Xperia XZ4, Google Pixel 4 XL, Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Sony Xperia 10 III before their official premiere, and all these leaks were subsequently confirmed.

To start with, the Moto G72 will not support 5G networks, while the Moto G71 does. Or, perhaps there will be a separate version of the Moto G72 5G, but we don’t know anything about it yet.

As a result, if the Moto G71 relied on the Snapdragon 695, then the G72 will receive the MediaTek Helio G99. And the first not only stands out with 5G support, but it is simply faster. But Moto G72 may be cheaper, but there is no data yet.

The novelty will also receive a 6.6-inch 120-Hz pOLED screen with Full HD + resolution, 6 or 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of flash memory, a 5000 mAh battery with support for 30-watt charging, and a 108-megapixel main camera. . There will also be moisture protection (IP52), which is familiar to Motorola smartphones.
