OPPO A53 5G unveiled: an inexpensive 5G smartphone with a 90Hz display

Today, December 18, in China, OPPO announced the 5G version of the previously presented A53 smartphone. The new OPPO A53 5G model, in addition to supporting fifth generation cellular networks, has received several important differences from the original version.

The OPPO A53 5G is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720 chipset, which not only provides support for 5th generation cellular networks, but also a noticeable performance boost over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor found in the original OPPO A53. The company chip is 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory without expansion options.

Almost the entire front panel of the new smartphone is occupied by a 6.5-inch LCD-display with a resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels, a maximum refresh rate of 90 Hz, a sampling rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 480 nits. In its upper left corner there is a small hole for the 8MP front camera for selfies and video calling. At the rear, there is a triple main camera with a 16 megapixel main sensor, an additional 2 megapixel module with a macro lens and a 2 megapixel depth sensor for blurring the background in portrait photos.

Autonomous operation of OPPO A53 5G is provided by a rechargeable battery with a capacity of 4040 mAh versus 5000 mAh for the version without 5G. It is charged via the USB Type-C port. There’s also a separate 3.5mm audio jack for headphones, a dual SIM slot, and a fingerprint scanner built into the side power button. The device is running the proprietary firmware ColorOS 7.2, which is based on the mobile operating system Android 10.

OPPO A53 5G is housed in a case 162.2 mm high, 75 mm wide and 7.9 mm thick. It weighs 175 grams along with the entire filling.
The novelty is already available for pre-order in China. There, its suggested retail value is 1299 yuan, or about $ 198 at current exchange rates.
