OmniVision Unveils 50MP OV50H 1/1.3″ Optical Format Sensor for Smartphones
OmniVision has released its new 50MP OV50H image sensor in time for CES 2023. This sensor is quite large – the optical format is 1/1.3 inches. That is, it competes with the Sony IMX707 sensor (also 50-megapixel with a diagonal size of 1 / 1.28 inches).
The OmniVision OV50H supports pixel binning (4 pixels each) to capture more light. The size of such a combined pixel is 2.4 microns, and the image resolution is reduced to 12.5 megapixels. The manufacturer claims support for phase detection autofocus and 4K video recording at 120 fps (in normal mode) or 60 fps (in HDR mode). 2x zoom is also supported (due to crop).
OmniVision Partners will receive sensor samples in April of this year. Smartphones with it will appear, apparently, at the end of this year.

Why overpay for smartphones with 5G? On the example of the Samsung Galaxy A14, you can see that we are talking about a huge difference in performance.

The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G smartphone was introduced at the beginning of the month, but the company is preparing a more affordable version with 4G support. And today we have all the main characteristics of this model and images.
The design of the younger version will be the same, except that instead of brown it will be silver. Many characteristics will also not change, although there will still be differences.
The main thing, of course, is the platform. Instead of the latest Exynos 1330, MediaTek Helio G80 is used. Compared to the Exynos 850 in the Galaxy A13 4G, this is certainly a very significant improvement. For comparison, the Exynos 850 scores about 145,000 points in AnTuTu 9, while the Helio G80 scores 230,000 points. True, the same Exynos 1330 is gaining more than 410,000 points, so the difference between the A14 4G and 5G versions in performance is enormous.
The screen of the Galaxy A14 4G will retain the size of 6.6 inches, Full HD + resolution, but there will be no increased frame rate, like the A14 5G. The battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, the main 50-megapixel camera, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of flash memory will also remain, but charging will be only 10-watt. But the smartphone will receive stereo speakers.
The novelty will be released at the end of March. In Eastern Europe, they will ask for 200 euros for it.
